GearHead Miniatures!

Those of you who have been following GearHead development for a while will know that I have always dreamed of having physical models of the mecha from the GearHead universe. Well, thanks to the combined magic of Blender and 3D printing, this dream has now become a reality!

Two mecha have been released so far- the Corsair and the Haiho. Three more mecha are nearly ready for release. By default, these models are at 1/300 scale (good for tabletop gaming) but you can scale them up by x2.08 to print them at 1/144 scale (most gunpla + other giant robot models).

You can order GearHead miniatures from Shapeways. If you have access to a 3D printer, you can get the STL and blend files from my itch.io shop or by becoming a Patron at the G.H. Variations level or higher. These would make wonderful Christmas presents for someone, I’m sure.

Aye, so there doesn’t *seem* to be a forums, so I’ll continue leaving questions like this unless there’s a better place for it.

Anyway, I’m curious as to where mecha types are defined. Like Battroid, Gerwalker, etc. I’d like to do some rebalancing and perhaps create my own type.

Jay2Jay, they are in the file `gears/base.py`, as Python code. Derive from `MT_Battroid`, and add to `MECHA_FORMS` tuple.

While `modify_speed` `modify_mobility` and `modify_armor` exist, and you can restrict modules to particular forms by adapting `is_legal_sub_com`, anything more complex is likely to require programming knowledge of Python.

Aye thanks mate, but like a fool I completely forgot that GHCaramel works differently from GH1 and GH2. I’m actually interested in modding GH2. My fault.

Then again, considering what I’ve discovered about the old games, it might just be easier for me to add in a bunch of GH2 based things to Caramel rather than try to do just about anything with the old games. Regardless, I just saw the uncompiled files on GitHub and I’m currently smacking myself in the head for not looking there earlier. I should have known it would have been in the source code.

Again, thanks for your help though. Really appreciate it.

    1. It’s almost certainly easier to modify GearHead Caramel than GH1 or GH2.

Irrelevant to my previous question, but is there any chance of getting, say, a lore writeup on Gearhead? You said you wanted to do more with the Dusty Ring and such in GH2, but I imagine if you ever *did* add any of that to Caramel then it would be quite a ways off and… well I’m curious…

Also I apologize for cluttering your news/blog posts with these off-topic comments, but as far as I know there’s no where else for me to put them.

        1. I have been working on a world book for the GearHead universe, but haven’t been going about it in an organized way yet. What I should do is start finishing off one section at a time, release them as blog posts,

You released 0.560, but didn’t seem to have added a blog entry here yet?
