GH2 0620 Bug reports
« on: January 26, 2010, 11:09:16 AM »
Since it doesn't look like anyone else has started a thread, there one is!

First bug, a long time one that needs to be fixed:

Text descriptions in the right Sidebar are cut off after around 15 characters.

Arena mode is broken.  I created a new character from the main menu, but he isn't available for hire in Arena mode.  It appears character files are now EGG* instead of CHA*.  I suspect Arena mode is still looking for CHA* files.

Burzmali: In ASCII mode, I take it? I'll take a look for that.

EarthquakeDamage: Oops... this will be fixed in time for the next release.

3D gearhead had some weird, really weird graphical error going on for me, where the image is cut off and ... overlaps with another exact copy of itself, cutting off at the same part. That, and I can't select Mecha colors, or any colors, at that(you clicked them to select the colors in the last version, right?). Kinda hard to explain since I can't do a print screen of the splashscreens, but here is what the main screen looks like with the issue

I am playing Gearhead 2 in the 2d version.  It won't let me use the mouse to change colors of my character/mech.  I can change the colors in the 3d version.  I'm not sure if this is related to barrelroll's problem or not.

barrelroll & Onisuzume- Were you running in windowed mode or fullscreen? What's your graphics card? I tested the program on my wife's Vista machine (which is now where the releases get compiled and packed), so I don't think it's strictly a Vista problem. Are you using the precompiled version or did you compile it yourself? How does the 2D version work?

Tharrik: Same questions, basically.

I'm running the 2d version on Windows 7 with an ATI Radeon 5700.  I was playing in fullscreen.  I just tested it, though, and when I go to windowed mode, the mouse shows up to allow me to change colors.  On a possibly related note, the mouse is still useable.  I can scroll through a list like on the options on the main menu with the mouse.  I just can't see the pointer.    The version I'm using is the zip file I downloaded from the sourceforge.

2d seems to work well other than the fullscreen mouse thing.  I use keyboard for everything besides changing the colors.  So it doesn't affect much.  The main reason I use 2d over 3d is because I can't see the floating names on the 3d one, and I prefer to play with those turned on.

ATI radeon x1950 pro, fullscreen, same version as tharrik. 2D works fine, minus the mouse issue.

I was running precompiled fullscreen at that time, with the other version working as normal. Can't remember if it was 2d or 3d that was having problems, might check again this weekend (together with the graphics card, a geforce I think).
Hm... installed it on my own comp now (WinXP-SP3) and it works as normal with an ATI Radeon 4870. The tint of blue does seem to be slightly different between 2d and 3d though, although that might be by design, or just a minor bug. Also, mouse doesn't show up in 2d fullscreen. Tooltips, for lack of a better word, also don't appear in 2d (both fullscreen and windowed).

Moar bugs!

1.  The game crashed during character generation once.  I selected Theles Spinner, Priest, then it died.  I tried the same combination again and it worked fine, so I have no clue what caused it.

2.  I left a spinner and flew into deep space (aka the L5 Region "world" map) by accident.  My character wasn't visible (gearhead_2d.exe, if it's relevant) and nothing I did had a discernible effect (e.g. I couldn't hit '>' and reenter the spinner, which is the first thing I tried), with the exception of my character getting hungry after trying to walk around a bit.

I'm guessing I appeared in one of the far corners of the map, yet the screen stayed centered on a spinner (presumably the one I just left).

1. Probably a bug in the biography generator; I'll see if I can replicate it.

2. I just tried this myself, and the graphics are messed up but I could re-enter the spinner fine. I would guess that you wandered away from the spinner and are now lost in deep space. Pressing "#" and then typing "exit 3" should bring you to Maquise Shopping Center, from which you can get to a spaceport and from there to anywhere else.

Right, on the Vista PC now. With an ATI Radeon 4800 series (dunno the exact number, dxdiag doesn't mention).
GH 2d: missing mouse bug. Graphics bug (black squares, some for the terrain (props and such appearantly), also for the bar at the bottom of the screen). Files are present in the image folder as normal.
GH 3d: display really messed up, which is the only bug that I can find at the moment.
Cosplay: same as GH 2d (unknown if props fail to appear).

Good news, everyone! My wife's Vista machine also has an ATI card, and it gets the 2D fullscreen mouse problem. 3D, unfortunately, appears to run perfectly.

Onisuzume- No black squares either, I'm afraid. Could you take a screen capture of that and send it to me? Does it happen in wondow mode as well?

There's an easy fix for the mouse problem: Add a config option for a custom mouse pointer. Then, if the regular mouse pointer doesn't appear, you can use the custom one.

Alright, and it looks like alt-tabbing might be causing it. Link. Haven't tried it in windowed yet because I can't find the cfg file with that smegging vista. Also, the 3d version won't let me take screenshots of it for some odd reason.
