Victory, at last!

I finally beat my first game today. It was pretty fun, and basically i just wanted to give my thoughts on it. the advice from the 'how far can a Mesby take me' thread helped out a lot, especially at the last battle.

As an aside (I'm sure most of you already know this)Never give your lancemate a really expensive mecha, as they will most likely have it totaled by the end of their next fight. My first lancemate went through 3-4 Buru Buru's, 2 Ramuh, 1 Custom Vadel, and a Phoenix before she finally got killed. This turned out to be a good thing as 2-3 missions later I had an insanely overpowered lancemate (she had a 14 in mecha piloting. AND EVERYTHING ELSE) with a Savin and from that point on it was just us owning everything.

The story itself seemed pretty coherent. Some things that I thought were weird, though.

-At one point my nemesis/rival became friends with me. I was like 'sweet, now we will obviously team up to fight against a greater evil!', Until in the very next episode I ended up killing her friend. Seems pretty animesque to me. :D

-I convinced the dude that she sent to kill her ex to leave him alone. Never saw him again. Intentional?

-Convinced yet another girl not to fight me, who became my friend. Was expecting her to disappear like the last guy, but I ended up fighting her anyway later on, and at the final battle. There was an option asking her to join me during the convincing..would that have worked?

-Once when i was limping back to the spinner I got attacked by my nemesis. I pretty much decided I was screwed until her ex and some other dude showed up to fight. That was epic.

-Was my (second) lancemate supposed to be vastly superior to me in every way? She seemed a bit TOO good for that to be intentional.

-Ending. Did not manage to off my nemesis. Found it funny that the queen got pissed and decided to try and kill her instead of me for absolutely demolishing her forces. Guess there won't be a second season to my epic tale )=

Anyway, great work. Can't wait to see how this game improves.

Congrats. :)

- Yeah, there's a way you can get them to team up with you, it's hard and takes a lot more conversation and a lucky encounter with them during that chapter.

- I suppose it was intentional? On my runs I ended up fighting a bunch of formerly encountered lieutenants I hadn't offed when I'd had the chance though.

-  Yeah, probably could have, GH is cool like that.

- Did that happen on your final battle too? I had at least six dudes show up to support my already sizeable lance and was all like "whoa, final episode sydrome!" Gotta get those cameos in somewhere eh?

- Apparently yes, I hate lancemates for this very reason, they always outshine my carefully crafted attempts to max out every skill. One game Winter the mecha pilot joined up with me, she was sitting on 17s in everything and flying a Gladius. I joined HER lance I guess. =/

- That's an interesting point. Since "chapters" are based on the Story, which I assume can be called up during a game in progress, unlike quests, could there eventually just be a "season" generator, creating episodes leading up to the season finale, then, after a week or two cooling down, a new season begins! Season after season would get just that little bit tougher until finally nobody wants to watch anymore and the Gearhead RPG show runs out of funding and cancels.

Congratulations!

Am I the only person who appreciates overly powerful lancemates, willing to work at grooming them, building them up even higher, and concentrating myself (in battles) on simply surviving long enough for my lancemate to wipe out the opposition?

Clearly you are, but maybe I spent too much time in the last version not getting to play because I gave my lancemates - all of whom were sitting on double digit stats - too much firepower that even having to turn 90 degrees = Dead enemies.

Part of the problem with lanemates is that they're just so stupid, they need high skills to survive. If it makes you feel any better (or worse), the skills your NPC opponents have are at the same rank.

It's the high Initiative that does it.  In the time you need to turn, they can get off 3 or 4 shots sometimes.
