Love Interests....
« on: February 15, 2009, 11:57:28 AM »
It was a star-crossed romance if ever there was one, Sweet, dear Desami promised to go out on a date with young Gabriel when he nobly saved her life way back in chapter 1, and there was no force in the cosmos that could keep them apart!

Every day, Gabriel would go and talk to Desami, and together they would laugh, share stories, talk about the important things in life, like trying the fun pizza, and just how much artifice they could fit into the serious buzz. And Gabriel would ask "so.... how 'bout that date?".

And Desami would reply: "Why Gabriel! I would love to fly with you to the stars and beyond!"
"But...."
"I'm washing my hair."

Undeterred, Gabriel struggled until his was a name known throughout the land! Surely she would relent when he became extremely reknowned!

But.... no. Extremely reknowned having just turned 75 reknown, fluctuating between high and maximum affection, and even turning to "enhancements" (oh allure skinsuit! For shame!) to try and win the girl, nothing works.

This is not the first love interest character I've encountered, and absolutely none of them do anything. So what's the beef? Is the love interest a "joins you in Chapter X"? Do you need literally 100 reknown before they agree to merge their mecha with your lance?

For some reason I am currently very glad that Joe hasn't written than bit of content yet.

I had no problem getting a love interest character to join my lance.

This may have had to do with very high leadership and the Cameraderie talent, though.

CCC, I'm going to go ahead and guess that English isn't your first language. ;)

Okay this just took a turn for the worst. Maybe he needs more obvious ones, like something about firing gauss cannons . . .

But more importantly, I dont exactly think its something that really detracts from gameplay. If I wanted to play a mecha/anime/dating sim I'd . . well . . kill myself, but anyway.

It is my first (though, I will admit, not my only) language. I'm just not very good at recognising double entendres (in any language).

My apologies if I have unwittingly caused any confusion.

i bet you just want to tell that GH dont have sort of graphic needed for dating sim, so it shall aim for damage and destruction, aye? ;)

Ferget Dating Sims, where the hell is my free lancemate? For the amount of time apparently engaged in wooing what is around a third of my maximum lance as of this version, she better be rocking my world with a Gladius and some plasma cannons when she's finally good to go.

Oh well, scrapped that game anyway after Gabe tore a muscle on his first death (apparently I have super human abilities to recover from a torn muscle in a day or two?) and, having started out with 6 Body and Ego... These "no save reload" games are painful. Next time I see a love interest, guess I'll try Leadership or *shudder* progressing the plot.

I'm wondering...
Is the love interrest coded to be always the opposite gender of the protagonist?

Ofcourse, it'd be easy to alter it in the save file, but still...

It doesn't matter, since at this point the love seems to be only a Platonic form...

I actually wouldn't mind if player - NPC relations would be improved to give world more depth and make NPCs something more than just source of quests/items/exp. Even if those are important :P How much should those relations be improved and if things like romance should be there - I cannot say surely, but I think it would be worth a try and quite some work.

I was actually thinking of several ways to make the love interest a bit more interesting.

For example: Gifts!

But, you don't just give your sweetie some standard items, oh no!
At certain times, probably determined by relationship and time together, a NPC shows up selling gifts, each of which boosts the stats/skills/exp of your love interest!  Course, the items are delivered automatically, so the PC doesn't handle them directly.

Ah, but the love interest also give the PC gifts!  I suggest the love interest give the PC gifts of items that are rare, such as amazing weapons, armor, or mecha items.

Also, the quality of the items should be inversely proportional to the quality of the lancemate.  So, let's say you have a love interest who's a high stat, highly skilled Knight.

So, you get a handgun slightly better than average, as that lancemate is pretty good.

But, let's say you get a scientist as a love interest instead, who only has the basic mecha skills as useful skills, plus this scientist has lousy stats.  Since you've gotten the shaft in lancemate, perhaps the scientist love interest create a mecha gun with scatter, brutal, and a decent DC?

Just my two cents.

I like idea of gifts, but NPC should give the ones that are somewhat of NPC's specialty. For now, we don't have enough items in every category of class luxurious enough but, well.. Armor/Weapon from Cop, Bounty Hunter, Soldier, some rare and nice electronic parts for Robotics or mechas from Scientists and the like. Plus maybe several 'just' rare items - gems? Some very expensive clothes? Just the things that could be sold for quick cash. Of course such gift-plots would happen rather rarely but I still would find it funny if someone would make Don Juan in mecha, a guy that visits several ladies on different spinners for quick fix of items :P

Beware the love triangles my friend. Last thing you want is getting missions to break up duels between two would-be love interests. There's no reward, no Exp, and even by getting involved there's a good chance you'd become BOTH their targets.
