If you're reading this, the forum is working again!

Huzzah!

When I first noticed that the forums weren't working, I'd thought there was something wrong with my computer.  It wasn't until I saw the message on the Yahoo group that I realized what happened. @_@

Three cheers for Kornel!

ETA- For some inexplicable reason, the GearHead RPG blog has been getting a lot of bizarrely porn-sounding search results lately. I just checked, and all of them lead to the "GearHead Forum is Down" post. I don't have any idea what's going on with that. I can, however, report that GearHead RPG is now the #1 search result for "pictures of backed girls", whatever a "backed girl" is.

Oh.. my... goth..

Its actually working again! :O

Maybe that's because of all the spambots...
They'll probably have something mentioning that in their profile or something.

But thanks to Akismet, none of the spambots make it through. Also, all the porn searches are linking to one page- the one about problems at the GearHead forum. Yesterday I got the following two searches:

gearhead 2 galena hodges
video game girls nude

I hope and I pray that those searches were not made by the same person. :O

JH, just take a look at the members list and you'll see why we end up with that junk. (no matter how cute the girls are)

To get rid of those results we'll really have to purge the members list of such... impurities.

I doubt it, last time I checked the tag <meta name="ROBOTS" content="NOINDEX,NOFOLLOW" /> will keep most of the standard spiders from mapping those pages.

Trust me, I don't think it could be anything but the members list.
But since we're down one admin (or so it seems), we can't remove the bots from the members list to make sure.
Removing the bots ain't a bad idea anyways.

Here's the reason for the porn searches:

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&safe=off&q=http %3A%2F%2Fwww.gearheadrpg.com%2F%3Fp%3D36&btnG=Sear ch

Those websites are doing the linking, not anything from the member list.

Why are they doing that?  Beats me, probably a technique for evading getting flagged as a spam forum by Google.

Okay... serious wtf...

Still, wouldn't we be able to press legal charges against those sites then?

No, you can't control who links to you.  General Motors tried that when Emmanuel Goldstein and 2600 registered www.F**kFord.com (minus the *'s) and redirected it to GM's website.

Oh well. I'll just have to content myself with reading the daily search results as a new form of entertainment. I got a strange non-porn search today:

how baby's nose looks like

Maybe I should add a new tagline: "Not really a porn site."

Okay, the most funny thing is that the forum ressurected itself, probably when I done a full database optimization o.O.

I'm very sorry to you all, Joe especially, that it took so long... I barely have time for anything except work lately :/.

No problem. I understand the problem of having no time all too well...
