I think the second image would look much better in GIF or PNG format. JPG doesn't suit cel-style shading.

OK, I saved it as a png and it does look better now. You can see it at the empty homepage:

What I'd like to do is alter the header so that it would always load the starscape then superimpose a random mecha on top. It seems like that should be easy enough; I'd just have to install a randomization script and brush up on my CSS.

I'm referring, of course, to the Campbell's Soup Cans style painting/picture. Either a total array, or with the inverted and reversed colors.

I did the image with the shading on separate layers, so it's very easy to change the colors. Here's the banner I'll be sending to Temple of the Roguelike when the new site is ready to go live:
