WMP Classic? I've been using iTunes for simplicity.

I have no clue what I use for midi's. I honestly do not know.

I've been thinking my MIDI problem most likely has to do with my on-board sound card. When I think about it, even Windows had trouble playing MIDIs on my machine. It's play them, but there was an incongruously loud BLAT! sound before each one.

If I remember correctly, MIDI doesn't work by default in Linux, right? I swear I saw a thread once somewhere that detailed how to get it working...

Is this link: http://tldp.org/HOWTO/MIDI-HOWTO.html
Of any help to you? I bumped into it on Google while looking for said thread.

Wouldn't the MIDI thing depend on distro?
I'd think Ubuntu would have MIDI support, and I know that one of my LiveCD's, if it supported audio, would do MIDI's (through a MIDI editor, if nothing else).

Not WMP Classic, Media Player Classic - it's not really that great for music, no playlists. Then again, iTunes isn't that wonderful either - I prefer WinAmp, less of a footprint.

Of course, someone will tell us to use foobar2000 or something instead.

But foobar2000 is really good! It's open source because the programmers released it open source before the rights to the foobar franchise were bought out by Microsol, so it won't blow up suns like foobar2007!
Screw Microsol, and screw Gencore, too. Open source all the way.

(Also, use Media Player Classic: it's essentially an updated WMP with the old interface. I use it for movies and the like.)

Yeah, its awesome.
I got mine with the CCCP(Combined Community Codec Pack) and it should also support playlists, as well as shuffle and the like.
And the overly important repeat forever function.

I use VLC primarily. It works well, is open-source, and cross-platform.
