COME! my robot minions (MUAHAHAHA!)
« on: April 08, 2008, 11:48:10 AM »
i was wondering if it can be made so SF:0 lancemates with out a mecha (like say a non-sentient robot with a bazooka) can take part in SF:2 battles

It would depend on where. It would be unrealistic to have SF:0 in space, just due to scale, as combat units.

It probably could be done just by disabling a couple lines of code.

Probably to keep your SF:0's from becoming fine particulate ash.

ways this could go

1.we forget this thread ever existed and move on with our lives

2.add an option in the field HQ to determine whether or not a lance mate with out a mecha will take part in SF2 combat

3.allow non-sentients with sufficient knowledge stat to operate SF1 mecha

4. let lance mates become particulate ash whether you like it or not

5. make it so only lance mates carrying heavy weapons will appear in SF2 combat whether you like it or not

3: No.
4: No.
5: No.

1 and 2: either's fine.

In order of bad-good.
3. Probably not realistic. My cat will never use a mecha. Never.
4. Rather not.
5. Nah, that would kill the ultra strong ones using melee weapons.
1. probably would work but would not be my fave.
2. Best of all, but maybe too hard to code.

Actually, I'd throw in behind highly trained non-sentients being able to pilot SF:1 mecha, or drones or something. Happens from time to time in anime/Sci-fi universes, so there's OOC precedence.

Not too sure how it'd play out, though. Less needed cockpit space could mean, um... well, you'd be able to armor the thing more, put it in odd places, and so forth. Maybe certain species (uplift series -> dolphins) could be sustained in a liquid environment, which could mean higher achievable gs and faster mecha. If nothing else, less needed space could mean more guns. That's always good.

Really, just some way to take dominated critters into SF:1+ combat would be neat. After all, robotics has the potential to make piloting allies, so why not let its alternative have the chance too?

when i said non-sentients i only meant robots (cause even if it has no piloting skill you can just splice the mechas limb control circuits into the robots control circuits and it will will be just like a giant robot which in the end is all what mecha are)

as to why every NPC bandit king doesn't do this already is simple

1. NPCs don't eat so flesh drone are cheaper than robo drones
2. bandits probably don't know a thing about robotics (not some thing you would learn at P.U. (pillage university)  )
3. how do you know they don't if vespas are for the suicidal then what are strongarms for?

Strongarms are for if you need to use up your entire budget.

If  not, it would be several kinds of awesome if they were. Gremlin piloted Cetus army for the win.

if you can train it to pilot the mecha it would work for some animals and synths but others (they need to be able to sit in the chair)

but animals need to be trained first

with robots you just incorporate the mecha into the robots circuits
