GH1: Golden Hotel Quest
« on: April 04, 2008, 12:44:48 AM »
I followed the clues and found the Golden Hotel. However, my target seems to be in a building with locked doors. I have no points in Code Breaking, and don't have sufficient XP to learn it. I tried attacking the door with my fists and a dual laser rifle (which is pretty good for cooking monsters), but the door doesn't get damaged at all.

There're NPCs around, but all of them gave no response when talked to. I saved and tried attacking them (thinking they're related to the kidnapping), and I got chaotic points for doing so.

What else can I do?

And for unlocking doors... how many points of code breaking is needed? Do I need to keep a thousand of XP unused so I can dump them into code breaking when needed?

EDIT:

I finally found the other posts. Looks like this mission is over. I don't have medicine either.

Or spend enough money and experience on heavy weapon skills to make them practical.
I suppose a grenade or something might do.
Personally, I play a melee character. A half a dozen hits per round with a sword usually results in the door losing. However, this is at the end of a large amount of experience and money thrown into skills, so... yeah, that's pretty much it. You're taking on something you never learned to take on.
A big, tough door.
And some are tough.

>_<

I need to make a list of skills that is considered a must for missions... but even then, I will have absolutely no idea how high they must be to pass the DC (difficulty check)...

Anyway, a gang war has broken out in Snake Lake Downtown. Me and my lancemate, the first Snake Lake guardian, went there to slaughter some helpless gangsters (they go down with 1-2 laser rifle shots). Helps putting money in my pocket and restoring my mood.

Yes, I tried all four. All were locked.

When I tried the quest with another character, one of the doors gave me the pizza delivery option as mentioned in the old threads.

Your laser rifle should be able to cut through the door if you fire at it for a while.

As a side note, I always carry around the laser drill found in the Hogye mines for opening doors.  At 0.5 kg, I never needed a better key.

We all have our methods. I remember, before the game was changed to disallow this, I once went down into the complex under BioCorp's Snake Lake offices without the skill to pick a lock. I punched and kicked that door, and back then, that gave me XP! I spent hours and hours at it until I could learn five levels of Martial Arts and the Kung Fu talent.
Can't do that no more. :(

Bigger boom? You probably won't damage anything inside unless you use explosives. I dunno. You could try Code Breaking.

I never put money in training. Is it worth it? What's the credit to experience point rate?

Recently while playing, I thought that it might be too easy to get through doors without Code Breaking. Of course, I was using an armed combat expert with a monosword on a long haft... that could explain why.

If I were to add contact explosives, this would provide a means for characters without the Code Breaking skill to get through locked doors. Of course you'd need to have one on your person, but still it would be neat.

Breach charges! What about a plasma-anti-door weapon, that charges up and fires at a mecha or other stationary/really large object that it is placed on and is then recovered?

Could it be strong enough to have a chance at destroying a cave wall?
'Cause that would be awesome.

Maybe. It melts at the surface, so it could.

In GH1, in the past, I've blown open a cave. It's fun.

What I'm thinking is that it would have to be set in a location, then when the blast goes off it would have a far greater chance of destroying terrain, metaterrain, and props than a regular weapon of its size. It would do regular (though still high) damage to other models caught in the blast zone.

I was thinking kinda like a short range welding torch meant to do the opposite. It could also be placed and melt away its surroundings, with an overly powerful blast taking it out also. It would do almost nothing to people because they would have a fair while to escape before it made the area to inhospitable. It also works against mecha due to an penetrating adhesive model design, with both claws to dig in and glue.

What about explosive traps? So far all I have is for industrial use.
