Totally Off-Topic, GearHead RTS?
« on: April 01, 2008, 06:42:20 AM »
I've got a couple simple, profound questions.

1. Does anyone here know about Spring?
2. Does anyone know how to mod Spring? (I could learn, I guess)
3. Does anyone want to make a GH mod for Spring?
4. Does anyone care?

it would be cool but gearhead isn't real time i think recourses would be better spent making a gearhead MUD

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MUD

or some sort of multiplayer arena (that way we can find out which is better missiles or lasers)

I know about Spring.  I liked Total Annihilation enough to be interested.  However, I never got around to downloading or playing it.

I can't mod, though.

I agree with clasic traveller, that I would be more interested in a multiplayer arena.

Ahh... I miss playing Titans of Steel.

Depends on the game I have to mod. :p

A GH Mud would be cool too.
Though would it be based off GH1 or GH2 universe play-area-wise...

Titans of Steel is free now. What about a ToME-net styled GH MUD/RLMMORPG (Roguelike MMORPG)? I'd host a server, heck, I'd buy my own server to host a server. Maybe. If I have enough cash. Or a sufficiently cheap server.

Anyways, the RTS would work very well, given that Total Annihilation, which Spring emulates, is primarily mech based, with additional unit types. It supports units on different scales (SF:1, SF:2, even SF:3, given a large enough map.

I'd like that a lot. Unfortunately, I don't know a thing about network programming.

Which is why I started with Spring. It comes pre-framework, so it's only content development. Better if you know about TA development, unlike I do.

How about a turn-based strategy game?  You know, like X-Com, but with mecha?  Imagine being in direct control of a faction like Aegis Overlord Luna, or being the owner of MUGL or one of the other corporations.

GH is a turn-based strategy game. Moderately. Do you mean ToS style or We Love Mind Control Rocket/Risk style? One reason I thought about Spring was so I could just mod, as opposed to code. We could make a Wesnoth mod...

GH is a turn-based strategy game.

Well, there's not a lot of strategy involved. You don't control territory, research new technologies, etc. What GH does have a lot of is tactics.

I thought GH is a rogue-like?

or at least to some extent a tactical rpg?

Nevermind the specifics.

Anyway, if you want to do a Mod, why don't go and give it a try?  When it's done, I'm sure there's a bunch of GH players who would give it a try.

I need art and coding help. Basically, I need help on everything. I might be able to mod: Battle for Wesnoth, Soldat, and a couple other games, but that's all I can mod.

tee worlds? (Remember, the forum auto-links URL's)

Hex strategy can be confusing, and, frankly, boring at times.
