Bus connectivity in GH1
« on: March 27, 2008, 11:57:05 PM »
I've noticed one oversight in GH1.  Most of the cities in GH1 are connected together by intercity bus routes.  However, the following routes are non-reciprocal:

1. Namok to Gyori
2. Wujung to Mauna
3. Ipshil to Snake Lake
4. Snake Lake to Wujung

Gyori and Mauna, in fact, have no bus routes out at all.  Which means that if one loses one's mecha in either town, one has to hike out.

Also, Gyori is rather more likely than other cities to be the location at which a player becomes mechaless, since it has the hardest of the initial three arenas...

i had that happen to me once

i lost my wolfram (which i tricked out with senors, computers, light autocannons, shields, and a pair of shoulder mounted shaka cannons (THIS THING ROCKED!)) it took a lucky shot to the leg and crashed i didn't have a chance to eject (I WILL HAVE MY REVENGE AGIES OVERLORD!) since the local arena awards salvage i did have some scraps/dumping mecha lying around but instead i went in to the factory bought a rover(thinking i could attach arms and legs but i was wrong) so i drove back to the mining town grabed the only decent mech i had left (a razer that i tricked out with a third leg and a shaka cannon) used it to finish the namok arena and won a vandel

i guess the moral of the story is no matter how bad things look no matter where you are you can always bounce back (i now have two lance mates (ones a robot of my own construct) and an army of spare mechs)

The bus system is intentional, I think, because Gyori and Mauna are kinda out of the way, they wouldn't have bus connectivity outbound.

You'll rarely lose a mech in Mauna, and in Gyori, they'll sell you one.

Gyori is not "out of the way".  If you follow the roads, you'll always pass through it en route between Namok and any other FedTer city.

Also, a unidirectional bus service makes no sense.  The buses always have to return to the source city, and it's pointless to have them empty on the return trip.

But mecha are expensive.  You're more likely to have a spare, than to have the ready cash to buy a new SF2 machine.

I suppose one could buy an SF1 mech just for transportation, but it doesn't seem worth it since such mecha are useless in combat.

What I meant by out of the way was totally disconnected with other cities. Then again, aren't all of them, in hindsight?

Yeah, you could buy a Strongarm for transportation. Don't write off SF1 for combat, they can fight.

Actually, that's not true.  SF1 mecha move at half the rate SF2 ones do.  (Don't believe the "dpr" readings -- those are before scaling.)

Anyhow, I've made a patch to fix the bus system, available at ftp://ftp.ocis.net/pub/users/ghpatches/gh-1100-bus fix.diff.

Now all the cities are connected logically.  Snake Lake, Ipshil, Wujung, and Gyori are connected in a ring, while Namok, Mauna, Last Hope, and Hogye are spokes off the ring.

I added a bus terminal to Gyori.  Mauna now has an "Intercity Bus Stop" sign like the one that has always been in Last Hope.

SF1 mecha can still run if they're given thrusters in the design. They don't weigh much, so you can make them.

No, not on foot they shouldn't. SF 1 is about the size of a car or whatnot, so a mecha could easily outrun them.

well if im reading this right you can't cram in new thrusters and wheels and stuff because they are SF2 so that could be patched

Actually, you could in the creation of the mecha design files, but you cannot buy parts and move them in.

No, not really. There isn't a large market for SF:1 parts.

well i was thinking having the thruster parts work on both sizes but having SF:1 versions of those parts actually sounds like a better idea THANKS! =D
