Different Weapons?
« on: February 26, 2008, 02:51:11 PM »
Does anyone else think GH2 needs a little more weapon diversity? Granted I haven't looked through the  text files or whatnot, but there don't seem to be too many weaponry types.

What I mean is do we have any weapons that people have to struggle to visualize? (Almost) Everyone knows how a rocket launcher looks and what its shots and shot trails look like, but how many people knew what a Spinfusor looked like before Tribes (Spinfusor deserves capitalization)?

My question is this: Is GH2 diverse enough?

Now, I have strange personal tastes, but it seems to me like there should be more weapons. We have explosives (rocket launchers), but why not add  grenade launchers (cheaper, 6-12 shot clip?) or even full-auto 'nade launchers (sorry, modded Soldat to have a full-auto grenade launcher and ever since I've always wanted to see one in another video games) for surpressive fire?

On another note, what about pulse beam weaponry and full auto weaponry being able to cover an arc of fire, like supression?

*slap*
That's Stormhammer ya know, stormhammer or disk launcher.
The only thing "spinfusor" about it is the disks that it launches.

ARGHH! I haven't played it in weeks, and now I forget the names? It always said Spinfusor on the inventory screens.

I'm talking about Starsiege and Tribes 2. Not the Vengeance which should really be titled "Tribes: a Reason for Vengeance". Granted, it had some good aspects. Not enough, and it lost its old ones. For an FPS it was fine.

Tribes 1 calls it the "Disk Launcher" in the tutorial and manual, and "Disc Launcher" in the inventory screens.

Tribes 2 calls it the "Spinfusor" in the inventory screens, tutorial, and manual.

Both manuals mention "Stormhammer" as a synonym, however, but it does not have front billing.  It also appears in a few of the colourful in-game "X killed Y with Z" messages.

It's official. We need more quantum weaponry in Gearhead. Maybe some MFACs, too.

quantum weaponry

Weapons that fire indivisible bullets?  Weapons that can only exist in a fired or unfired state?  A weapon thats loaded state is unknown until the trigger is pulled?

Yeah, MFACs are cool.
Though isn't that tech rebel-only?

MFAC: Magneto-Fusion Assault Cannon.
The MFAC is derived from alien technology uncovered in the Tharsis cache on Mars. It fires a plasma/energy globe that detonates with tremendous force that can damage both shielding and armour over a large area. Thouh the mass, energy requirements, and recycle time of the MFAC are considerable, its effectiveness is undeniable. It will only be found on large vehicles with access to a very high level of technology. This weapon commands a great deal of respect on the battlefield and its presence should always be noted.

Good luck.

By my calculation, a 20 DC energy weapon with a blast radius and hyper would consume 3000 EP.  That would give you around 3 shots with a size 8 mecha.

Starsiege mecha probably never top the spatial volume of a Buru Buru, in my opinion.
