New forum goer with questions about GH2
« on: December 24, 2007, 02:42:12 PM »
Yes, hello, I'm Yuu Inohara... Anyway, I'm playing v4.51 and I was wondering- In RPG mode, are you supposed to get sickly hungry after each step when you enter the world map? It took only four steps to drain my entire ration supply.

And second question- In the Arena Campaign, at any point in there, is it possible to buy weapons and/or cybernetics?

Sorry if any of these questions have been answered already, just wondering...

1. Yes. The scale is vastly different.
2. Probably not. I don't think so. It was possible in GH1.

Well, for question two, there is an incredibly round-about way of getting equipment for your pilots -- not cyberware, but that's less of a restriction in GH2. What'cha do is mod in a scale 0 mecha, probably just a torso, and put whatever items you want for your team into the thing's inventory. A quick test shows that it works, however cumbersome it might be, heh.

Though I guess this response might fit better in game mechanics... oh well.
Note that trying to go into battle in a scale 0 mecha will have the pilot show up without any mecha at all, so, uh... don't try that. Unless you want to, heh.

Edit: *facepalm* Uh... strike the lot of that. Apparently items transferred from SF:0 mecha are unequippable by pilots, at least arena pilots. Sorry for any confusion.

I can understand this, but going from too full to eat to major stat reductions in one step (as in one tile) kinda seems a tad fishy...

Ahh... I only asked about the cybernetics because when you look at the character info, it has an option reading 'Review Cyberware' so I was curious *shrug* As for the weapons, I mean for Mechs... Because right now I'm just piling up duplicates of weapons I no longer need... Atleast not in this large quantity (... I'm going to scream is I see another DC:40 Swarm Missile... I really am...)

Ah... for the (massive) amount of duplicate weapons that can pile up, you have noticed the Sell Unused Inventory command, ya'? It's a massive help ^^

The modded torso with items thing works perfectly fine with scale 1 and 2 objects, though, so if there's a particular weapon(s) that you want, that can work. Slight markup due to the torso, but better than nothing, heh.

I think something akin to GH1's equipment buying arena choices will be implemented at some point -- possibly as an unlockable -- so you'll get it eventually. Welcome to the forums, by the by.

Thanks for the welcome, and I noticed the sell thing (I even have a dump mule (basically a stripped Buru Buru that I just chuck my unneeded items to so I don't accidently sell parts I'm saving or a mech I put alot of work into...)... Though I would go with the modded thing... If I knew squat about how to do so... On an unrelated note, I am beggining to regret all the work I put into the missile platform Gorilla... Sure it has enough mounts that it'll never run out of amm and enough armor to not take alot of damage... But it can't bloody move... But I'm getting off topic, I apologise... I guess I'll just have to sit back and deal with the pile up while I try not to destroy the Burus so I can capture one and finaly get a collar mount installed on my Galah...

No need to apologize, of course. Your topic.
Still, yes, salvaging whole mecha is the ultimate money maker, if you don't mind the pileup.

I don't really see what good a piece of cyberware is when you have no option of installing it.

Eh, I don't usually get much off of mecha I sell though, mostly because 90% of the time I stripp them of usefull parts (such as the Daum's computer, Buru Buru's collar mount, bits of armor, I even took wings off the Skull and popped them on my Neko so it has more weapon space and overchargers)

But yeah, makes more money than just selling axes and swarm missiles, which is why I love the factory raid missions, last one I did I got five mechs (two recovered from field, and three from the factories... Oddly enough, one was a Pro Duelist Association Joust... And the factories belonged to the Blades of Crihna...)

Thats another thing that kinda bugged me... Though it could just be my OCD going nuts because theres an option with no use <.< >.>
----
now... Speaking of mechs... This brings up another question, when you win a mission and the person says one of the factions gives you a mech, how do you obtain it? Because it doesn't show up in my roster, or in the shop.

Ah... I think that when you complete an arena mission and a faction mentions giving you a mech, it's just opening up the possibility for faction-specific mecha to be bought. Not entirely sure, but that could be it.

Afaik it only grants you the option of buying said mecha.

Ah... I was just asking because they never appeared in the Hardware menu, and after beating the PDA I had just slightly under my starting amount money wise, ah well *shrug* I guess I'll just have to keep working at it, don't really need new mecha right off (I'll probably swap out my Galah once better mechs are available, but until then I think they're built up enough to handle what gets thrown at me)

1. The map of the L5 region in GH2 is far bigger than the world map in GH1. I need to add something so the PC will automatically eat food while traveling.

2. I don't plan to add cyberware to arena mode, since part of the deal with cyberware is that it's balanced by dysfunction points. Since the characters in arena mode go straight from battle back to the HQ, they don't have time to accumulate disfunctions. This is something that may be changed in the future.

3. Welcome to the forum.

1. Thank you for that. Maybe consider putting that same auto-eating into GH1? I don't mind manual eating if it's not too often, and in GH1 it's fine, but it doesn't sound like a bad idea anyway. (Would it be a .cfg setting?)
2. Could just increase the cost of the cyberware in Arena mode. Would that be feasible?
3. Welcome!

2. Not really, no. It might be possible to let the dysfunction points build up between missions, but even that doesn't really balance things well since you can just eject from combat if you roll one of the life threatening dysfunctions. To balance the extreme bonuses you get from them, cyberware dysfunctions should be dangerous, not merely annoying.
