How's it work for that purpose? In fact, what is it?

Prose Descriptive Qualities is kinda like GURPS with advantages and disadvantages - specifically, you make up a quality (anything from Acting to Swashbuckling to Being a Monkey) and get -2, +2, +4, +6 or +8 to it. Most games run 8-10 points of abilities with -2 or -4 disadvantages. Or something like that. It's free online, look for it.

I hear GURPS is crap for vehicles - which worries me, as I'm a commissar in a 40K Armoured Company game we're starting. Great for unique characters, not so much for vehicles.

Are you sure you're using GURPS: Vehicles, Vehicles Expansion 1 and Vehicles Expansion 2?

GURPS make great vehicles, its using them in combat that gets tricky.

Vehicles are practically made for combat. What's the use of having a huge tank if you can't use it?

Heh, I once designed a GURPS battlesuit akin to the Bubblegum Crisis hardsuits.  Even with playing games with tech levels, it turned out that the capabilities of the suit had to be adjusted every few rounds because it became drastically more mobile as it used up it's fuel ;)

Of course you could figure out the performance each round, if you didn't mind solving a quadratic equation (or solving a differential equation up front).

Think of the fuel cost!
