Er, to put it simply, Wujung probably has a larger pure science budget.

Wujung probably rents some space in Glaconde to run low/zero G research, too.

I think there are very few ways to even DO non-lethality in GH;  additionally, how would you ensure such a thing happened?  For example, can you shoot someone with a lethal weapon if it would not kill them?

If you said "cannot use lethal weapons", that might be possible by basically adding a "lethal" tag to most weapons.  The other, allowing the use of said weapons without allowing them to kill, is a much more complex coding animal.

there has been work on "plot element"-type hacking and coding, but I don't think there is anything to stop a monster from catching you in that mad rush down the hall, if it is much faster than you.  similarly, I don't think there is something that will stop you from pulling way ahead of the monstie if you are really fast, wearing a jetpack, or some other such.

I think you could set up a pseudo-chase by hacking the ladon code:
-When PC hits button, close door <create wall at A>, remove actor <monster>
-When PC moves past point X (or when PC opens <door2>), remove wall, place <monster>
---repeat with changes for a monster chase.  Add "side-wall break-throughs" for added suspense (as much as you can get, anyways, in a turn-based game).

Keep in mind these types of plots are just creatively re-using plot devices already in place.  Any game is as much a the creative use of what is there as what specific code is in place.  I could cite other video-game examples.

Prestige is profitable, as it brings in new blood and new business. Still a question of how much prestige you can afford, which loops back into the appearance of being able to afford something being the essence of prestige, but that's not so much a circle as a spiral.
Anyway, you've got something there. Prestige can be profitable, and new scientific developments are prestige.
Still, a lot of that can be worked on by renting out (that's brilliant and I suspect JHewitt will like the idea quite a bit) rooms to labs and universities on Earth.

I've got a question. Can there be seperate semi-races in GearHead? Will the engine support it, even if they're not standard. By semi-race, I mean like Bowman's Wolves, Shadowrun Metahumanity, mutants, et cetera.

Yup. We already are getting catgirls/guys and people with armor plated skin based on the free trait you get at character creation.

(At least, it was last time I checked. We don't have it now and it is (was?) a planned feature.)

Well, yeah, but I'm also referring to stuff like extra tails (though you did mention that), as well as Three Laws style stuff. Read Freefall for this, about the Bowman's Wolves (inable to attack humans). I'm thinking forced non-lethality. Could also make for a semi-pacifistic non-killer who has to go through a long series to mentally prepare to use lethal weapons.

And yes, last time I checked it did involve tails.

...

You just want to play as a Bowmans Wolf with a killer robot don't you?

The mental block VS lethality could work though. Possibly added to robots, biotech (yes, I have a feeling that you will eventually be able to mod in BW's) and possibly even convicted criminals!

How could it work?

1) As a "talent" that sucks up a certain amount of MP per lethal shot dealt to hunams (as per COMPLEX x) until either A) you faint or B) you "Break" the conditioning by soaking enough MP in a certain space of time. Perhaps as it gets broken it sucks less and less MP?

2) Straight up "You feel uneasy and cannot pull the trigger" until you pass a plot point. Might work as a negative cybernetic implant.

Fuchal?
Like, Fuji? Where Lister wants to grow sheep and cows and breed horses?
Leaping mutton?

I'd imagine. I already pointed this one out earlier but it has not been confirmed yet.

It would be neat if the Comet Burger personnel would wear a red/green/blue octagonal hat with an arrow through it too...

---

Just tossing another idea into the energy credit pool, if anyone has read Frederic Pohl's "Heechee", the station maintenance tax might work as a plot device to help flesh out the indentured underclasses.

(People so poor they can barely afford to pay the rent.)

Of course in the GH universe the life support systems may be advanced enough to be able to run for a minute amount of money, but even if that were the case I reckon a life support tax might work for the long term residents (It would be invisible to the player because it would be skimmed off the goods and services the player purchases during his/her stay. Kind of like GST.)

Horray for creativity - better minds (just different minds?) than I have more alternative solutions to the tough questions :)

I got to wondering about cyberware removal/replacement. Bio-clinics, anyone (they clone your limbs, then paste them on)? What about a secret-millitary-underground faction where Biotech is common, and you can go there to get special limbs.
