24 Hour Comics
« on: October 16, 2007, 11:33:05 PM »
After missing out on it last year, this year I'll be doing a 24 hour comic. 24 Hour Comics Day is coming up on Saturday. Because there are no events being held in Korea, I'll be doing it by myself at home and posting updates to internet. I know at least a few other people who will be doing the same; unfortunately, because of the time zones, I'll be starting at least 8 to 10 hours earlier than any of them.

For those who have never heard of 24 hour comics, here's the official website:

http://www.24hourcomics.com/

I've done two 7-day roguelikes, but this will be my first 24-hour comic. Maybe someday I'll try writing a novel in a month, and then I'll have completed the trifecta.

Haha, awesome! The whole concept is neat. Good luck with it, and try not to go crazy from the work! =)

Maybe it would be a good idea to stockpile energy drinks or something. Good food, too.

Neat!  Any hints on what subject or storyline you're going with?

By the rules of the dare, I guess I can tell you that I've chosen the title "One Monkey Off Perfect" but that's all I can set in writing until the day.

Hehe, I love the title.  I look forward to seeing it up on the web.  Best of luck!

I'm about to get started. I'll be posting updates at the Transplant forum, in this thread:

Go forth, young man!  Draw like the wind! =)  And remember to enjoy yourself.  That's a big part of what it's all about, after all.

It's 3:51 in the afternoon, and I have pencils down for all 24 pages. Now I start the inking. Inking always takes longer, for some reason. The Transplant forum is down, unfortunately. Here's a picture of me working on page 19, taken by my wife who appears as a ghostly reflection in the whiteboard:

I was wondering if it was down or if it was just my internet connection fritzing again.  Way to go so far!

I now have 12 pages at the "semi complete" stage, which is to say that they're ugly as all get out but I could leave them as they are and still claim to have a comic. Here are three of them.

\"Semi

I'll do some shading and editing when I scan the pages into the computer. That should make them prettier. I'm fairly pleased with the story, I think- I haven't read it yet, but it was fun writing it.

Eunsuk has gone to Ulsan to visit her family. Personally, I suspect it may just be to avoid my working music. I'm taking a break now for supper. My right forearm is a bit achey.

So far, only two people from Transplant seem to have started- me and ToastYeah of Chip Shop Adventures. That's the trouble with living so close to the international date line, I suppose. Many people in North America are going to start at 12:00 noon, which will be 1 or 2 in the morning for me (assuming all North Americans live in Toronto, which for Canada may be a valid assumption).

Looking good to me.  I like the big guy, but then I've always had a soft spot for serious gorillas in suits.  Ever since Max anyway.

Finished!

After 18 hours of near-continuous work, I am finished. 24 pages have been done... I didn't do a cover, but that's not technically part of the event and my wrists are about to give out. Now all that remains is to scan the images in. Actually that's not part of the event either but what the hey.

So far we are four pages in and this may already be the greatest work of internets ever.

I most certainly did not see that coming.  That was suprisingly disturbing.
