Penetration, Trauma and more

Hi, I'm texter from Japan.
I just started playing GH1(v1.001,Japanese version) lately, and I really enjoy the depth in its game system, and richness in atmosphere. It surely takes much effort to build up such a well elaborated game world. (I know this may sound weird, but GH reminds me of one of my favorite RPG, Betrayal at Krondor by Sierra)
Since the game provides wide variety of choices in making characters, testing different character bulids is quite challenging and fun. Some Japanese players are very successful playing as a Mecha Designer, with heavy investments in Knowledge and Robotics right from the start.

Now let me get back to the title. I have a couple of questions on game system.

1.Penetration
There seems to be many features regarding penetration in GH1, but I am not clear about how it actually works in damage calculation.
Before asking about penetration itself, I'd like to see if my understanding on damage distribution between armor and hull(body part) is correct or not.

1.1 About how damages are dealt... Are these true?
- When X points of damage is dealt, some portion of it goes to armor and decreases its DP(not being mentioned in battle log), while the rest goes to body part and decreases its DP(and this is mentioned as damage done in the battle log).
- Damages are, under certain ratio, divided and delivered accordingly to both armor and body part. Thus attacker can damage defender's body part BEFORE his armor on that body part is all stripped.
- When you are naked or your mecha wielding no armor(ex.C3 body armor), all damage is directly distributed to the body part.

1.2 About ratio regarding damage distribution
If my understanding shown in 1.1 is correct, what factors affect the ratio?

1.3 Finally about penetration
- I read that +1 penetration bonus equals to 25% armor negation, but what does that mean?
- Is penetration a driver that affects the ratio mentioned above? (this question might be on a wrong assumption)
- How about negative penetration bonus, such as HULLDOWN(-3)? It seems that HULLDOWN negates those penetration bonus such as Kung Fu(+3), but what about against normal attacks?
- What happens when you are naked and Hard As Nails(-2)(or enemy being without armor and you are Kung Fu)?


2.Trauma
- How does trauma accumulate? By time passing?
- Are there any difference regarding trauma accumulation and types of mulfunctioning between these two cases ?
 CASE1:single cyberware implanted with 50 trauma rating
 CASE2:five cyberwares implanted with 10 trauma rating each (50 trauma rating total)
- How the skill Cybertech works? Does it merely slower trauma accumulation? (Wiki says you can repair mulfunctioning by this skill, but obviously that is not working in GH1)


3.Miscellaneous
- Is Gate Crusher always in effect against mecha, regardless of what you are using(Punch,Gun,Missiles)?
- Is Mecha Artillery used for firing small missile(DC10 or less)? Is Mecha Gunnery used for firing large Beam gun(DC11 or more)?
- I read somewhere in this forum that Extropian actually eliminates mulfunctioning for (Cybertech level-1)/3 cyberwares(rounded down). Is that true?
- How called shot works? I noticed there is a penalty on penetration(-2), but are there any penalties on accuracy?


There is a community of Japanese GH1 players(most of them are roguelike fans), and I am going to feed back your answers to the community.

Hey texter! Welcome to the GH forums, I'm sorry I cant answer all your questions but were all here to help.

1) It means that enemies affected by the penetration bonus will act as if they only have 75% of their normal armour in that case.

2) As far as I know, 1 level of penetration = 25% armour reduction

3) I do not know this for sure, but I think that it will increase your armour level.

I.E (from your enemies perspective)

4 pen = -100% armour
0 pen = no change
-4 pen = +100% armour

4) Don't know, can someone else answer this one?

With a called shot you can only fire once regardless of BV. The shot is aimed towards the part you selected and overall that will be the part damaged. Some weapons will have a splash effect to nearby parts.
