Inventory mass-meter patch
« on: February 13, 2007, 04:35:23 AM »
I have a GH1 feature-addition patch to post:

I've added a mass-meter to the "backpack" menu, which tells you both the current total inventory/equipment mass and the maximum mass you can carry before incurring penalties.

It works both for characters and for mecha.  It is also color coded -- green for no penalties, yellow for a single point of penalty, and red for worse overburden.

It's only supported for ASCII mode, not SDL.

It's available at ftp://ftp.ocis.net/pub/users/ldeutsch/ghpatches/gh  -1100-massmeter.diff .

I'll patch this into the program, then do something similar for SDL. I'm going to be pressed for time for the next two weeks, but maybe after that.

All the more incentive to try out ASCII then! It's not as bad as you think it is.

Ever seen say, a book? Give ASCII a chance :)

EDIT: Just before I go off to bed..

I'm sorry Mr. Lennon, but you were picked for the two minute photochop of the day.

My apologies for any beetles fans out there.

Anticheese>  That's cold man, real cold.  Even if the fact that just looking at ASCII "graphics" makes my eyes water in pain implies that I'm somehow lacking in imaginatory powers or something, that's no reason to rub my nose in it, or imply that disliking ASCII somehow has to do with my literacy level...

Now that just hurts my feelings.

*cry* (again)

Eh, I'm used to the ascii version more than the sdl one, primarily because I like the controls for ascii more.  Then again, this is for gh1, as I never was able to get into the control scheme of gh2, or at least the sdl version.  Also, I like the ascii one more as it makes it easier to imagine the world more since its more abstract...

Inventory mass-meter is great, as Sun Tzu says "Know yourself, know your enemies, etc. etc." Is it possible to show the class-size of the mech and its limbs too?

Another thing about inventory in GH1 is that when you are piloting a mech, you are also "equipped" on the mech, along with all of your inventories. This make it difficult to find and eat your nutrition pills or greasy lunchboxs inside the cockpit  You also have to place another set of mecha repair supplies on the mech to use it.

Sorry. I've always been a supporter of ASCII and I did not stop to think about other people in this case.

Whatever works you you, works for you well.

I did not intend to cause any doubt over your level of literacy and so forth.

</damagecontrol>

But I would much rather deal with a situation like this then have a John Lennon fan chastise me.
