GearHead1 v1.020
« on: January 30, 2007, 08:54:20 PM »
I've finally gotten around to making another release of GH1. Here's the list of changes:

- Added villainous reputation debugging code (Series\ADV_FederatedTerritories.txt)
If you gain villainous reputation from attacking someone, a message is printed saying "You feel villainous". If you feel this is in error, quit the game without saving and make a copy of the save file. Describe for me exactly what happened when the message came up, and I may ask you to send me the file so I can try it myself.

- Applied Michael's new patches
- Paletted images should use improved color swap (sdlgfx.pp)
- Models can no longer set self as target (targetui.pp)
- Can learn skill from school even if DirectSkillXP is off (services.pp)
- When cycling weapons, only weapons of appropriate range used (gflooker.pp)
- Fixed problem with tactics mode start trigger (arenaplay.pp)
- Characters indicated at start of tactics turn (arenaplay.pp)
- Fixed exploitable tacticsmode bug (arenaplay.pp)
- Jack of All Trades can now use repair skills (pcaction.pp)
- Burn status effect now has constant rate of diminishment (arenacfe.pp)
- Area effect weapons do full damage against metaterrain, props (action.pp)
- Attacking drones should not give villainous reputation (locale.pp)
- Fixed lancemate chatting in mecha bug (aibrain.pp)
- Lancemates may not learn new talents (pcaction.pp)

Delete your series directory before installing on top of an older release. Save games and character files are compatable with previous releases. Let me know if you encounter any problems.

EDIT- I set the wrong version number in the program again. I'll fix that later.

The other Michael. Actually, I should have said "applied Michael's old patches... finally".

I noticed that you're still using BMP images for some of the sprites. Also, you're not using the updated sprites from my webpage. Do you not like them?

Odd, I thought I was using your sprites. I unzipped those to the image directory... I'll have to check to make sure they didn't end up someplace they weren't supposed to go.

Por_m_guy 1 to 6 look really strange. Kinda inside out or something.

Por_f_Miaganewver and Kpopnewver too.

That's probably because they're paletted images but not with the proper palette, because I did something with SharkD's images other than put them in the correct place.

I think I've fixed the problem. I will reupload the archive.

Also, I just noticed, not all the portraits from GH2 are included in GH1... I should fix that as well.

I was thinking about the rusty scepter quest last night, actually. I have to finish that. I was also thinking of adding the Blades of Crihna as a second antagonist for the Solar Navy.

The fixed files have been uploaded; these should contain SharkD's converted images. Also the version number has been fixed. Let me know if you encounter any problems with them.

Some sort of Eaccess violation has occurred but I can't duplicate it, sometimes at start, even!

Kidnap quest memo still sticks after successful completion.

Email and Memo problem with "murder club": got the job in D. Snake Lake, went to Mauna, talked down the student, got email from Mauna Guardian, talked to Guardian, got reward, E-Mail and Memo stayed, no clue to the next place gained---Nevermind, they went away as the whole plot stopped.

I checked the program.  It seems the pretty204 patch only got partly applied - the README is updated but not the "crt.pp.diff" file.  Which means there are a few protests from patch when the feature is activated with FPC 2.0.4, although it still works.  There's also now a stray "README.$$$" file.

I've uploaded a new gh-1020-pretty204.diff, which is relative to what's in GH1 now.  You'll have to delete the $$$ file yourself.

I noticed one bug when first running it -- the Diner in Hogye was generated over top of Ki-Rin Megamart.  I've uploaded the savegame as "overlap.zip" in my patches directory.

(Of course, it's probably a pre-existing bug that was just waiting for the RNG to be in a particular state...)

I may have been wrong.
Make sure there are no BMP images in the Image directory.

I've been getting frequent crashes with v1.020. It is even worse as I was trying the NOAUTOSAVE option. It is with a clean install and a new RPG character. I haven't seen a pattern yet, except that it happens a few time when initiating a dialogue.

Also, I tried deleting all BMP images in the Image directory. Result : No ground anymore... I guess terrain has not been converted yet.

It sounds like the game is either missing or misfiling some images, then. It's probably looking for some bmps that have been converted to pngs or something similar. I'm mostly set up on the new computer now; I'll try to install FPC/JEDI today and see if I can fix the problem.

Somehow enemy buruburus keep using that scale 1 beamgun on me, instead of any other weapons (unless its head is cut off). I may start out weak and can be killed by one critical hit from its shaka cannon or axe, but isn't that too much of contempt? Hmm, maybe they are trying to capture my mech.
