GH2 Loading Screen Submissions
« on: January 23, 2007, 06:51:55 AM »
Five loading screens so far. Here are the original three:

\"\"
by me.

\"\"
by Kornel.

\"\"
by Ladi.

Specifications:
The loading screen must be 800x600 pixels, in jpg format, and compressed enough so it's only around 75kb in size. Yes, I realize this means there will be some quality loss, but it's a necessary evil.

You can include a link back to your comic or home page in the image, as Kornel has done above. I'll post a link in this thread and also at Ataraxia Theatre.

GearHead has a "teen" rating, so the art shouldn't be too graphic. I'd prefer to not include links to Web-MA comics in the game, but I don't mind posting such links on my own comic or the GH forum.

The filename convention is "poster_[title]_by_[artist].jpg".

--

I asked the webcomic artists at ComicGenesis for some GearHead loading screens. Nervous Spy of The B-Movie Comic has submitted the first such page.

\"Hang

I'm particularly happy about getting this image because I read The B-Movie Comic sometimes, and it's a very funny strip. Many many thanks go to Nervous Spy for the image. Now, all of you go click on the link above, because it really is a fun comic and also because clicks are the only means I have to repay him for this terrific art. :)

Nice! (Next person please say "Niiice")

If the other loading screens will be of this quality, GH2 will give a really good first impression..

How long does it take to load a heavy duty scene though?

P.S Is that Mech supposed to be a Gorilla?

Yes, it's a Gorilla. Right now the loading screen is used when starting a new adventure, since that always takes some time and will only get worse as the campaign world expands. I'm also thinking of using it at startup, since loading all the support files causes a noticeable delay on my laptop.

A new screen has arrived today, this one from Cheryl O'Neill of the webcomic Arkaina:

\"Vikki

I really like the colors on this one. Ms.O'Neill is clearly influenced by Japanese design, but has created a unique style all her own. In a world of "I wanna draw just like Rumiko Takahashi" amerimanga webcomics, that's a precious thing.

I have to say that I am really liking these loading screen submissions! My only worry though is that the loading times may be too short (I almost never play the SDL version) for them to be seen..

Finally a use for the forgotten credits.txt eh?

Here's an extra smoky one:

\"\"

Pick whichever you prefer. Personally, I think it uses a little too much smoke (though it's more realistic).

I like the one without as much smoke better.

Here's another one:

\"\"

Did I get the scale correct?

[edit]
Here's the same render, except with mesh subdivision turned on:

\"\"

Do you like this better?

Here is the city battle again, except this time with subdivision and radiosity turned on. Also, this time the text message is rendered into the scene.

\"\"

[edit]
I uploaded the POV-Ray source files to my website if you want to take a look.

You should try to add one of those "macbox buildings" JH did.
And maybe a couple small of hover vehicles
