Battleship quest - no progress?
« on: January 03, 2007, 07:08:44 AM »
I am currently undertaking an quest concerning the delayed construction of an battle ship.  I have gotten the information about the monsters in the sub-basement, but so far I can't find any actual monsters nor any leads on how to continue the quest.  Does anyone have insight about what I am doing wrong?

As far as I know battleships (and non-mecha space vehicles) are not in the game yet, so I'd imagine that the rest of that quest has not been written and will not be made until the feature is added.

I haven't noticed any plot dead-end messages though, and I don't think an actual battleship is going to come into play.  I am just supposed to fix whatever is delaying the construction of it, by talking to employees and figuring out what is wrong and eliminating it.

The entrance to the basement should be in the same location as the NPC who told you about the creatures, which should be the same location as the NPC in charge of construction. If it's not then there's a problem...

There are two basements, but I can't enter one since there is nothing interesting, according to the message I received.  The one that I can enter has a few locked doors and some gremlins, though.  I proceeded to kill them and search the entire map, but so far there is no luck in getting the people involved with this quest to think I have done it successfully.

Go to the map where you killed the gremlins again. Press # to bring up the debugging terminal, then print "XPV T2" and press enter. If you get some XP, that's the number of monsters still left on the level. If you get no XP, there's apparently a problem with the level. Zip your save file and email it to me.

It is.

PS:  I have sent the file, and the XPV T2 over-ride gave me 12 XP.  Thing is that I never met more than three monsters

Are you sure you explored the level completely? There may be a secret room with 12 monsters.

Hmm. For that event, I had been planning to change the basement design based on the difficulcy level of the quest. In an easy quest (where there are likely to be few monsters) the fight would take place in an open room style basement. The more monsters there are likely to be, the larger the map would become.

It would be nice if you can use an ingame skill to find the number of monsters in the level.... better if there's an equipment that can detect monsters.

That's a good idea. I'll keep that in mind when I get around to working on the usable items.

I am pretty sure that I have explored the level completely a few times over.  Try it out with my savegame, maybe I am missing something crucial.

I've just tested your file, and found the reason for the oddness- all the crates in the basement are being counted as enemies. I'll fix this problem in the map generator, but for now you can solve the quest by simply blowing up all the crates you can find.
