I don't understand the concept of mecha cyberware. (GH1)
« on: September 27, 2011, 03:21:01 pm »
Great game, having a lot of fun with it, but I really don't understand this. I put the stealth system, sentinel FCS, and self defense matrix in my mecha and started getting cyberdisfunctions.

Er... what? First, how does a mecha have "cyberware" in the first place? When you put electronic parts into a person that's called cyberware. When you put electronic parts into a mecha, that's just called... installing parts. Secondly, why is the cyberware in the vehicle I'm driving making ME sick?

Installing components in your mecha cannot give you cyberdisfunctions.

Does your character have any cyberware installed? If so, my guess is that you were slowly accumulating Trauma until it started causing cyberdisfunctions. It is only a coincidence that the cyberdisfunctions appeared shortly after you installed those components in your mecha.

How odd. I had extropian and my in-self implants didn't exceed 1/3 of my cybertech score. Maybe I'm just dumb and miscounted. I only turned an eye toward mecha cyberware because one of the items (the stealth system I think) has a trauma rating listed on it.

If I read the code correctly if you are piloting the mecha it's possible to get trauma points, but I could be wrong.

Is there an easy way to take the trauma off the stealth system?

Sorry for digging up very aged thread, but I would like to resolve this.

Modify these lines in GH1.100/Design/Domino.txt

...
SkillModifier 40
Name <Stealth System>
Type <MECHA>
CyberSlot <ELECTRONICS>
SkillModStealth
SkillModAmount 3
...

AFAIK that 40 there indicates the level of trauma.

Ostensibly this mecha part has trauma because it is a special system in the cockpit that eg. has tiny probes pushing into the pilot's skin and interfacing with their nerves in order to improve stealth or some shiznit like that.

Since I linked this thread in a current topic, I imagine there are worse grounds for necromancy.  Thanks for the briefing on GH1 trauma sourcing.  Joe changed it for GH2, then, because IIRC there the total bonii were what determined the trauma rating (penalties, if any, didn't affect trauma).

Incidentally, where'd you find that rationale?  Nothing in the wiki about that.

Glad to help.

Hehe, that rationale is just one of those things that simply popped into my ever-unstable imagination and was then deemed fit for posting by my bullsh*t filter :P In fact, now I'm thinking about how this concept could be extended into a general game mechanic (tradeof between using traumatizing mecha interfaces and using less effective non-traumatizing interfaces). But as for this thread, I shall leave it alone now. RIP.
