Max XP points?
« on: October 31, 2006, 09:01:26 AM »
I just played GH1 yesterday and wow, got hooked up rightaway. I'm truely addicted to it. :) Now, I have a question. Not sure if this is the right sub-forum for the question, thou. Feel free to move this thread to the appropriate sub-forum.

Is there any limit on how many XP points the player can accumulate? Why I can only train my Reflex and not my other stats? (FYI, it's 16, the highest of all)

Anyway, I registered yesterday to the forum but I have yet to receive a confirmation e-mail. My account name: BuriBuriZaemon. Any solution, beside re-registering with different e-mail?

Sorry for the double post. I found the e-mail in the Bulk folder, so just ignore my last question.

There is no limit on how high your XP can climb except your boredom/the ever rising difficulty of the game.

You can only level up your stats after you have accumulated a certain ammount of XP with skills linked to that stat, so for reflex you need to use your combat skills alot, for charm - become a social butterfly, and so on.

I'm tempted to make a stickied introduction thread ;)

Hehe. Thanks. :)

Another question:

Is there any limit on how many Mechas I can have? I have like 6-7 right now, but no lancemates at all.

There are no limits to the amount of mecha, even tho it'd be a lot of clutter in the town...

Oi! Nope, no limitation on the number of mecha. And boy, they can really wrack up. Luckily, this occasionally means you're richer than you thought you were.
It's a good reason to level up your Shopping skill. Shopping improves sale value of your items, including the big ones like mecha. (Of course, it also improves the buying power of your money.)

Addendum: Seems like you've used forum boards before; your etiquette seems practiced. Welcome to the board!

In the words of the previous posters - Nope.

I think there are about 5-6 ish human lancemates you can have, You can get around this problem by doing the following.

1) Open notepad, type in the following (case sensitive)

MechaControl R
NOAUTOSAVE

This basically means that you will now control your mech like you control your character (keypad to move, a to attack, A for weapons menu, + for running and - for reverse) and that you now need to press X to save your game (case sensitive). This cuts down on the annoying fights where that damn vespa hit an ammo critical (Basically 6 figure damage) on you and your prized mecha was destroyed in all of 20 turns.

2) Give your next character about 13 craft and 15 charm, Spread the rest among Reflexes (Very important), fling a few extra points into knowledge (more total skills) and do with the rest as you will.

3) Learn Leadership and Robotics. Level them both to around 8

4) Buy 10 Mecha Repair Kits

5) Save the game

6) Keep using the robotics skill on the 10 MRK's (Skill menu, Robotics) untill you get the message "Your creation seems to be self-aware..." - This means that you now have a lancemate superior in many ways to a human lancemate. Remember that to repair them you need to have skill in general repair and that it can be a bit of a pain to outfit them with basic mecha skills.

7a) If you succeded in creating a sentient robot, repeat steps 4 thru 6

7b) Else, reload the game and start again.

I know this may seem like cheating, But if you need plenty of cheap cannon fodder then this is the way to go.

If possible, have the robot learn general repair/first aid so that it can get free exp.

Thanks for all the tips, those would be very useful in my next play.

I've been wondering, is it better to work alone with no lancemates, or to work as a team with the lancemates? I read somewhere in the forum saying the AI wasn't too smart and since the PC had no control over the lancemates, they might destroy those cool mechas the PC wanted to capture. Can the PC choose whether to bring lancemates or not to the battle?

As for the TacticalMode, the description mentions it is still in testing, thus, unstable and may result in crashes. So, I hesitate to try it on.

It's up to you whether you want to have lancemates or not.  Any experience you earn is split up amongst all the members of your party (sentient or otherwise).  However, having more people to fight alongside you means that you can finish battles more quickly, and thus gain experience more quickly.  You have a limit on how many lancemates you can have, which can be increased by training your Leadership skill.

If I recall correctly, you can choose which lancemates join a mecha battle by assigning mecha to them before the battle.  Any lancemates that don't have mecha won't take part in the mission.  In personal scale combat, all the lancemates or pets you have will join in automatically.  I believe that it's possible to set general strategies by chatting with lancemates.

The tactical mode is indeed unstable, but the worst that you can expect to occur if it crashes is the need to reload your last save file.  If the tactical mode still worries you, just create a secondary character that you can use to try it out.
