Lost and Confused

Okay, this seemed pretty interesting so I'm having a go at it, but I've run into a few problems that seem kind of important.

I managed to get to the mecha tutorial, after reading that this game had tutorials, I epically missed them with my first character :D, and everything was working fine until they asked me to roll... which doesn't seem possible as I searched every function and I did not have an option to roll so I moved around a bit and then tried jump, which damaged me... then it told me to activate the map, without really telling me where to find it, but I did and I attempted to use it and it didn't do anything.

Whew, okay, so how do I roll and how can I make the map work?

Also does this game have music/sound effects?

Ah! Almost forgot to add, I added a document that was supposed to allow my mech to move in standard roguelike fashion, but it doesn't seem to be working.

Ooookay, pretty clear these forums aren't frequented... can someone at least tell me where I might be able to find answers?

IIRC the dot key <.> changes your movement type, it doesnt spend time so you can cycle all of them until you are rolling.
Keep in mind that you need to be able to move to the square in front of you in your selected movement type so try to have an open and flat terrain ahead.

I tried the period key, and it didn't seem to do anything, is it possible I have a mech that lacks the roll feature?

Very. Most basic mechs have walk, some have skim as well, but rolling is usually post-modification.
I'm not actually a spammer. I promise.

you can only roll if you got the free Corsair Battroid.  If ever you missed getting that one and don't know how to get it, I suggest starting over with a new character and get the Corsair again, because it's got a nice LAS-10 on it.

May I ask what version are you using?  ASCII? or the SDL tiled graphics one?  Are you using the menu based UI for mecha movement?

Did you change any default settings at all?

That would explain why I can't roll, though it's kind of odd that a mech I got for free in the tutorial lacks a function that you're expected to have in the tutorial.

I'm using the SDL-tiled graphical version. I was using the menu-based UI but I JUST figured out I had to save arena.cfg in a particular way so it doesn't end up as a text file and now it moves in standard roguelike fashion.

I also made it so it doesn't autosave.

---

Though now that I've changed the mech to move in roguelike style, how do I use some of the functions that examine my mech or turn on the map?

I'm only trying to recall from memory here, but I think you're supposed to get a corsair if you agree to go through with the tutorial.  What mech did you get? You can get atleast three mechs from Hogye, one from the tutorial/mayor, one from vicky as a loaner from the arena, and one at the bottom of the mines.

you can check your mech in the HQ screen and see what parts it has.  check if it has wheels, if not then it wont roll ever.

Also, I think there's a list of the Keyboard mapping somewhere in the help file.  it should help you.
