ASCII mode...?
KarolineDianne:
Greetings all, it's been quite a while. So long in fact that my old account seemed to stop working...
Anyway, in this new version of GH2, I'm rather lost on how to get the ASCII mode turned on. As it seems, the readme is telling me I have to go download another program and alter the code just to do this. This can't be right, and I'd much appreciate some help with the matter.
I merely wish to do away with the 3d perspective and isometric graphics. I play in ASCII, always have and always will. If I can't get it to work here, I simply cannot play.
Frumple:
What OS are you running? Windows just has to go into sourceforge and download the ASCII only version.
Direct link.
If you're running linux, I can't help yeh. If you're trying to compile from source, there should be some sort of readme with the source files that will hopefully give you enough information to manage getting it into ascii mode. GH2 was the first thing I ever compiled (and the last) :P
Completely forgotten how I managed it, but eh.
KarolineDianne:
Thank you very much for your help. I had searched for the ASCII version on sourceforge, as that is how I remember it being done, but the link on the main site only listed the SDL version.
Either that, or my perception skill is awful.
Regardless, thanks for the help.
Rowanthepreacher:
you have to go backwards a little bit, to the root folder, then follow the paths down to ASCII.
Erathoniel:
ASCII from source is pretty simple, you just put a couple lines in the command line, IIRC. Mind you, it's been like a year since I compiled GH2 myself, so I can't help, but I think there's a compiling guide on the forum.
