GH2: Talents prerequisites
« on: July 10, 2010, 08:23:22 PM »
'lo.  new player with a semipressing question;  For gearhead two, is there a list of prerequisites for the talents in existence?  I dredged the wiki and the forums trying to find one, but while there's a full one for GH1, no similar one seems to exist for GH2.  A full list would be nice, but the prereqs for extropian and innovation would be fine too.

There's a partially outdated list in one of th'h-key in-game helpfiles, though I forget which. The list is near th'bottom of the file, whichever one it is.

For innovation, you need mecha engineering 10. I'm not sure on extropian, but I think it needs Pragmatic 25; if you're unsure what your pragmatic score is, check th'@ list. Mysticism is th'opposite of pragmatism, so if you've got that, you've got your work cut out for you meeting th'reqs. If there's any other in particular, just ask, I'll see what I can remember/hunt down.

thanks.  I found the talent list dredging around the gh2 files and searching for extropian, but I think it dated back to gearhead 1, seeing as the cybernetics skill no longer exists in gh2.

Actually, cybernetics hasn't been gone that long. I dunno what replaced it, though. A lot of the skills got merged, so try any sort of biotech-medicine style thing, maybe science?

now to find out how to actually get to 25 pragmatism to test the theory.  Installing cyberware no longer seems to add pragmatism, and the only way to get pragmatism seems to be calling those dudes who talk to you about past lives idiots, and that's only 2 points a pop.  Plus I have this sneaking suspicion I only get the chance to do that once.

edit: empirically, it deson't seem tied to the science skill.  I had enough spare xp to take my science skill up to lvl9, and no dice.

Iirc, cybernetics got basically nuked; its replacement came from th'talents, your pragmatic score and ego stat, and however th'blazes cybernetic dysfunction chance got moved around. Near as I can remember (and it's totally likely I'm forgetting quite a bit) there's no longer any skill that effects dysfunction chance directly. It was a bit back, yeah. Somewhere on the forum, I think someone had the formula being used by the code posted (or at least named whatever file in the source is detailing it), though th'blazes if I can remember where.

As for th'when, I think it was around th'time that Mistah H. did that whole (fairly) radical revision of th'skill/talent system; not, as you said, terribly long ago. Most (not all, of course) of GH2's systems were basically identical to GH1, earlier on. Th'documentation just hasn't really been updated yet, s'far as I c'n remember. Though yeah, th'documentation in-game is still from pre-skill revision, mostly. There's quite a bit wrong with it, I think, for all that it's still 'mostly' accurate.

For what it's worth, asking about how much things are going to cost/pay is supposed to affect pragmatism... somehow. It's a lot easier to get pragmatism to go away than to keep it; but generally, being a jerk without going to the point of triggering intimidation skill checks seems to be th'path to bringing it up. Or edit the savefile, whatever (Protip: This is a lot faster, especially if your character gets hit with a high starting mysticism score.).

Heh.  i've been considering doing that, but the savefile itself is a mess of random numbers.  I'd tweak to affect my pragmatic score, but I dunno where the number even is.

Try th'following (Make a baackkkuuuuppp):

1. Open up th'savefile in your text editor of choice.
2. Use the search function to find your pilot's name; ferex: NAME <Jack>
2a. It'll probably be right below another line that says BIO1 <Blablabla>
3. If that search didn't highlight your name, do so.
4. Search down for -3 7.
4a. More likely than not, you're now at your pragmatic score; You'll see a line of numbers along the lines of 0 -3 7 23. Check to make sure the numbers match up.
4b. If that last number doesn't match your pragmatism score, keep search until you find the numbers 0 -3 7 followed by <whatever your score is>
5. Change that last number (23 in the example) to whatever.
6. Save. Your pragmatism score is now 'whatever'.

EDIT: Oh, and there is a skill that ties into cyberware; toughness specifically. The code's apparently in arenacfe.pp in the source (Notepad++ says starting around line 491.). I have no real idea what it's saying (I'm not any particular form of programmer, you see.), but it's definitely taking toughness into account. Another post says something about lowering the amount of trauma (which determines dysfunction chance, I guess?) when you're over your ego limit, but th'blazes if I know what's actually going on. Still, it's a start.
