open beta on a FPS mmo mecha game

www.cosmicbreak.com

If anyone is interested.  Looks a bit lego-ish, but it's free so I might try it.

*mutters vaguely* Just deleted a gig or so of manga to free up space to try this thing. I generally suck at anything involving twitch skills, but if there's artillary, maybe all I need to do is stay far away from explody things and lob massive AoE attacks into the melee -- if I don't really have to aim, or dodge, I do alright, ha.

If it dunnit pan out, well, I can fit Infantry back in the HD void. Maybe combined arms'll be back up an'running. Kinda' curious if this thing'll run offa' 50% of an ~2gig processor. Maybe I can go up to 66 or 75 without th'bloody laptop trying to lift off... darn loose parts.

EDIT: Man, why are there no decent mecha-themed MUDs? I vaguely remember a few gundam based ones, but Wing generally equals teh suck, and nothing much besides that. Guess I need to look into it for the umpteenth hundredth time...

EDIT2: Argh, whadda' gyp! It starts at 12, but it doesn't say which twelve. Whose noon is this!? The american cultural heritage of instant gratification tingles! Oh well... I guess anything that increases the number of mecha-tan running around th'internet is at least a not-bad thing.

EDIT3: Ah, found the clock on the website. Looks like it's -8 GMT; I'm -6 (CST) and it's two hours behind me. So about nine hours from this edit, the beta opens up.

Well, it's not directly mecha-themed, but you could try Star Conquest at http://squidsoft.net:7779/.
It's a space-opera MUD that features the ability to make use of land-based mechs in addition to spacecraft.

Any, anyone else gave the OP a shot? I wasn't terribly fond of what I tried; entirely too chaotic an'close-in for my tastes. I only like massive brawls when I can shoot into them from a distance -- 'cause, yanno', my twitch skills (and connection, and computer specs) suck -- and even the solo AI assisted stuff degenerated into an uncontrollable button-smashing mess in seconds. Does it clear up an'organize (or at least slow down a bit, yeesh) a bit further in or something, or just get worse?

Graphics were generally pretty solid though, for what it was, 'least as far as I was concerned. Which probably doesn't mean much, what with the whole not having played a game with next gen console-level (Well, okay, I've not even played anything that'd match the PS2, probably) graphics. Eh.

It's a really good game, actually. FLYING types would suit you. Find a cliff, jump off, fire rocket launchers downwards for 25+ seconds if you have really good thrusters where no one has enough range to hit you ^_^

Actually, I'd recommend the ARTILLERY types for long-range combat instead.

When I first saw it I thought it would be pretty weak, but it would tide me over until NWN2 on Gametap (Tomorrow, but odds are it won't work 'till Friday), but now I have kinda changed my mind. It's pretty fun.
