A little GH Appreciation
« on: May 06, 2010, 07:53:17 PM »
Well I couldn't seem to find an appreciation thread so I hope you don't mind me pitching in via a new topic here in general discussion  :)

A few years ago I discovered GH during my rpg rogue-like-addiction phase. I took an instant liking to the game not because it was perfect (though it had a lot of nice features for an OS game) but because of the creativity that went into it. It was fresh and allowed for versatile play.

I'm back and I'm guessing GH2 is next on my play list ^_~ Looking forward to seeing how things have moved on.

Would be nice to see a sticky appreciation thread.

Just wanted to chime in as well. I'm actually playing GH1 first although it looks like all the discussion on the forums here are pretty much about GH2. Sounds like GH2 is still being worked on though so that's fine.

Huge tactical game nerd, sadly there's a dearth of these kind of games (good ones). Purchased Titans of Steel from Matrix Games a long while back and have been playing the crap out of it. It's pretty much combat-only though, so when I read about Gear Head I nearly couldn't believe my eyes when I skimmed through the features.

One wee thing though; it's pretty daunting for a newbie starting out from scratch. I know I probably should've picked Basic Mode during char generation but hell, I never was one for prefab chars so I dove into Advanced. Long story short, I learned the hard way that having zilch charm means pretty much everyone won't want to talk to you after even a bit of conversation, low body means you can't carry - let alone wear - any gear worth crap and thus important stats (reflex, speed) will be permanently in the red, etc.

The wiki's great but it could use some more starter info. I'd love to pitch in but right now I'm just learning about the game myself.

I'm pretty much with trucidation on this as well, GH2 is a wonderful game, and I enjoyed the fact that they compressed some of the skills a bit, but starting it out is a bit daunting, and the wiki could use a lot of work. I should probably at least add redirects for all of the mecha pages so you don't have to add the "Mecha:" tag, actually.

They're good games, it just requires a lot of outside information to understand a lot of the stuff.

New Guy, with my 2 pence.

Great game, both of them. I haven't played much else since discovering them.

I hope to do much work on the wiki, since it's pretty painful trying to find everything out. I appreciate that the devs have their hands full with lives and whatnot, but I just became unemployed, so I've got loads of time to devote.

Best of luck with that project, though tough luck with what's enabled it. I've never had th'will to get around to figuring out wiki formatting enough to make something readable, but GH would definitely be improved by greater wiki coverage.

Feel free to throw up a new thread and ask questions on anything you're having trouble finding or wanting to know something about. I'd love to toss information at someone that'd be willing an'able to format it for wiki use -- I rather imagine several folks that frequent th'forum would be more than happy to help in such a capacity.

Hello! I'm new here.

And I'd just like to put my 2 cents in about how awesome this game is (though I've never quite been able to get GH1 running on my laptop)

This game is amazing. I really enjoyed gearhead 1 and I'm excited to think about where gearhead 2 is heading.
