GH2 PBEM, crazy? or crazy like a fox?
« on: January 27, 2010, 08:32:12 AM »
Alright mech-heads, er, mechers ... gearbies?  Whatever, who is up for a PBEM game of GH2 0620?  The rules are simple, you get an email, you play an episode, you email the zipped save game to the next player and then you post a synopsis of how you played the episode far better than any of the other players could of, or just a simple after action report, your call.

Maybe 3 days per episode and copying me on each of the saves so that if someone goes missing we can keep playing.

If you're interested, post which episode that you want to play and what you think the initial character build should be (or random for basic/hardcore mode).

So any volunteers?

Neat.

I will take any episode, though I would prefer not the first or second.

Initial build should be an insane axe-wielding monkey.  Oh wait, it needs to be within the GH2 confines?  Hmmm...  How about a charming, intimidating, dexterous James Bond-ish type.  Good skills, especially in conversation, but not so good at handling the mecha, which are big, bulky, and not his type of sophisticated. Probably makes good use of the sniper talent.

That, or an insane axe-wielding Corporate Executive.  This game needs more axe-wielding insanity.

I'm up for it, but I'll probably die a couple times. Are we scumming or not?

Wounds heal, bones mend and chicks dig scars.  Just think of the glory of completing the game with a character that has racked up 4 or 5 internal injuries!  But failing that we will have a backup at the latest episode if needed.  How about, keep the scumming to a minimum.

I could probably throw in a round whenever one's open, especially if it's over the weekend.

Any limitations besides on scumming horrifically? Would it be okay to depopulate a spinner? Drop rep from whatever silly level the folks before you drag it up to, to something manageable? Replace [Super Doom Machine] with a Buru? Basically, is it -anything goes, ahahahahaha- or -give at least some consideration for the poor sod going after you-?

The latter would probably be more enjoyable, heh.

Do unto others I suppose ;)

I guess the only firm is that you don't take any action that will kill the game's story.  Like intentionally killing the plot giver for a episode.

So let's see, we have Myself, IronJelly, Erathoniel and Frumple.  Let's give it another 24 hours to rope in any additional players and then we will start the first 4 episodes.  Post or PM me your email addresses and I'll set up the order.

Okay just one more and we'll be ready to start.  Why don't we go with the order:

1. Burzmali
2. Erathoniel
3. IronJelly
4. Frumple

If there aren't any complaints, I'll make up the character and play Episode 1 tomorrow.

Any suggestions for a name?  I'm leaning towards John Drake, but I'm open to suggestions.

*blinks vaguely* Oh... woah. It's the sixth. I, uh... didn't notice this week passing. School can be engrossing, I guess. That and Ogre Battle -- s'fairly amusing to be playing both the PSX port and the N64 one at more or less the same time.

Anywho. Any luck so far? Has a baton pass happened when I wasn't paying attention? If you're somehow still taking name suggestions, I enter "Bos Grande." S'what what I've been habitually naming SRPG main characters for the last year or so;
for some reason it terribly amuses me to see someone called that.

All right, after a couple of delays (including have to redo the episode because I ran it off the SVN instead of the release) the first episode has been sent to Erathoniel.  Expect a post mortem of character creation and episode 1 tomorrow.  Please CC me on the episode saves at Burzmali@yahoo.com if you could!

Edit to include information and maintain the correct sequence of updates.

Episode 1:
Drake, John Drake, Freelance Intelligence Specialist, or unemployed spy as my father says.  That's right, thirty years old and living with my father, the priest.  I could be living the life on Emerald or be neck deep in intrigue on Rishiri, if only I'd known that she was his daughter.  Well, c'est la vie, at least the rent's cheap.

I've recently been forced to re-evaluate my life and closely examine my strengths and weaknesses.  I'm okay in a fight, I'm not going to be knocking skulls with my fists, but I'm handy enough with a pistol and I can usually stay out of the line of fire.  I've been practicing with my Galah a bit too, and I'm getting to be a decent shot.  However, my real skills lie in the social arts.  I can talk my way out of anything, if I can't I can bluff my way out, if that doesn't work I can sneak away and if I get caught I can pick the lock on my cell.  On top of that, I've been blessed with looks that bewitch men and women alike.  But looks along can't get me work.

Eager to get back in the game, I hit up some of my old contacts at the Cavalier Club for work.  Fortunately, Netpy needed someone to retrieve a datachip someone had stolen from her.  After spending the last of my saving to get properly outfitted, I slipped into a shady bar and pumped the denizen for information.  One drunkard revealed that a lowlife by the name of Amsur Mapus bragged about swipping the chip and another chimed in that the information dealer Ajruce might know where Mapus was hanging out.

Ajruce knew alright, but he wasn't to reveal the location for cheap.  Since I was a bit strapped for cash, I used Ajruce's own bravado against him, and maneuvered him into a duel for the information.  His skills in his custom pirate Buru Buru were laughable and he quickly yielded and transmitted the coordinates of Mapus's hideout.

Approaching Mapus's hideout, I was attacked by one of his goons in a Buru Buru.  He proved more skillful than Ajruce, but he soon found discretion to be the better part of valor and ejected.  Amsur Mapus resisted handing over the Datachip at first, as he had stolen it for Igrausug, but my verbal skills, and Mecha sized laser rifle pointed at his head convinced him to hand it over.

Netpy was grateful for receiving the chip back and I found that it was good to be helping my fellow citizens again, though I was concerned that this Igrausug might have bigger plans in motion.  I went home to get some sleep and think the situation over.  Netpy mentioned that the folks on Marquise Spinner might need some help, so at least it looks like I'm going to keep busy.

Urgent Question: Job offer with Comet Metalworks. Probably plot-altering. Take or refuse?

EDIT: Oh, and I'm just about done with my part.

EDIT2: Also, it seems that the guy may hold a grudge if I refuse, since I just stole the Datachip from him. (Yes, 2 in a row)

EDIT3: Moot. I refused.
