First playthrough in 0620. Help wanted. Moral compass optional.
« on: January 26, 2010, 10:52:10 AM »
Welcome to my first play-through in a handful of releases.  I'm going to try something a little different in this playthrough and try to give you the reader a chance to determine how the story plays out.  I have played through the first episode with how I feel the character should be played.  However, I am going to stop at each end of each episode to take suggestions and majority rules her actions.  So, on with the show!

Today I have the first basic generated character I received, a 22 year old female pirate with suboptimal stats.  So, of course, I named her Ryoko.  Please to enjoy, episode 1.

Initial thoughts:
Low Body is going to make Close Combat a pain, probably focus on ranged.
Good Speed will make dodging easier, help with initiative.
Ego is too low for Taunt to be very effective, will have to make it a priority to boost.
High Knowledge is pretty much useless at this point.
Charm is always good, or at least it used to be, so that's a plus.
Idealist Blood is a waste of a Talent slot.
Assault Buru Buru is a mixed bag, the Repeater is a bit better than the Shaka cannon at this point, but I wouldn't want to go up against anything with too much armor with it.

Episode 1:

Home - Athera Spinner
Starting off at home, a pirate with no allegiance.  I'm going to see if it is possible to play the pirate side of things, at least initially and maybe try to hunt down some Red Mask Raiders and join them or something.  But first, boosted M. Gunnery to 4, purchased Initiative and boosted to 2.  Ryoko's mother(?) Idhta is home, she chides me for wanting to be a cavalier and tells me that there is likely a mission available at the clubhouse I'm always hanging at.  I asked her to join me, but she turned me down flat /* She could have used a better refusal, as a family member */.

Cavalier's Club - Athera Spinner
On entering the could, I run into my friend Acrah Urhstar (17 year old female monk) wearing a new uniform.  She's joined the Privateer's Guild in order to get a head start on the coming war, it seems.  I tell her she's an idiot, only a would sign up for the PG looking forward to a war.  What type of monk is that bloodthirsty?  Great, she's already told her new boss Veamyk that I want to join too, and she wants me to join her on a mission.  *Sigh* Idiot or not, she is my friend, so I'll agree to help her, just this once.  She's thrilled, and wants to rush over to the Hospital for a briefing, what the PG is too keep to their own offices here?  That doesn't bode well for the paycheck I'll be getting.  And now I have a sidekick, joy.

Well, at least she can hold her own in combat.  Awareness is pretty useful too, though junk for Perception.  The Wraith isn't too bad nothing to sneeze at either.  And of course she's dead broke and decent even own a sealed outfit.  I bet that's coming out of my wallet too.  Well, off gear up.  But... as we are walking over to one of the shops, we run into Picxyd Hewcho (22 year old female teacher) who lost a Crystal Skull she was supposed to be guarding.  What type of idiot leaves a teacher to watch something important?  Of course she wants me to help find it, well, it could be valuable, sure lady I'll help you.  She seems to think that a thief Ehy Hulepo has it, well we'll keep our ears open.  Also, some sweet swag is left in Udnayy Uswela mine, yeah if you like rust.  And Omhhan knows where Ehy Hulepo's hideout is.  Small world.
The shop here are pretty picked through, I grab a couple of skinsuits for the two of us and grab a stun pistol for myself.  Not that I'm non-violent, but sometimes you can get more out of somebody while they're still breathing.

The Atrium - Athera Spinner
Well, looks like this place is a bust.  I mean I could be knee deep in longswords if I wanted but nothing too deadly.  I might have to hit up the Cavalier's Club again, think I saw a light laser pistol on one of the shelves.  Well, some folks are talking, looks like Sonauta Wicla's mecha is in the shop, sucks to be him/her I guess.

MUGL Media Center - Athera Spinner
Nothing in the company gift shop but Mecha.  Though I had one exec start bragging to me about his salary, don't know if was being a prick or hitting on me.

Garage - Athera Spinner
Kind of a long shot, but sometimes they care decent stuff in these places.  One shopkeeper asked if I had a home for her "steel beast", sheesh, remind me not to wear this skinsuit in public.  Did pick up a Power Armband and upgrade to a mobile phone, every 0.5 kg helps sometimes.

Cavalier's Club - Athera Spinner
I ended up settling on a Quaker .32 Revolver with a fistful of clips with a longsword for backup/liberating doors.  Okay, that should do it for gear, now let's see what fool's errand Veamyk has in mind for us.

Athera Hospital - Athera Spinner
Veamyk (18 year old female corporate executive) was waiting for us.  She has a mission that in her own words pits us against "certain death".  I'm seriously starting to wonder what battle-crazed kamikaze monastic order Acrah belongs to.  She wants us to go deal with some mecha hanging around outside.  Not hostile mecha, well at least not yet.  Probably just some kids taking their parents’ mecha out for a spin without asking, real suicide mission there.  While I'd prefer to negotiate pay first, Acrah is really hyped about killing some folks so I accepted the mission, I kinda promised her that I'd help and all, and if it is some kids messing around, someone is going to have to keep Acrah from spreading their entrails all over the station's exterior.  Also, Veamyk informs us that Cirafe Eeti's mecha is in the shop, what, where he/she and Sonauta Wicla at the same kegger?

I hit up a cop for information, who would know better about rowdy kids right?  He tells me that Nuahno Zebca was recently defeated by the raiders.  Raiders?  I thought these were unknown, might-be-nonhostile, mecha?  Looks like I got suckered into this by Veamyk.  Wonder if that weasel Acrah is in on it... probably not, her hide is on the line too.  Before leaving, I picked up some Poison Antidote and Antibiotic pills, at least we'll die healthy.

I give Nuahno Zebca (18 year old Mercenary) a call to see how what's up with these raiders.  He seems to think I want his help.  Buddy, you got your tail shot off by these guys, what use are you going to be?  He warns me against fighting them, yeah, I hear that, but the kid here is all excited about seeing viscera and all... He doesn't even know where to find them, thanks for the help buddy, try not to get a bed sore.

Out of leads, I figured we'd head outside and take a look around.

Athera Spinner Exterior
We made a couple of loops around the station to see if the raiders were about.  No sign of them.  But, we did stumble on the Udnayy Uswela mine.  Now, looting an abandoned mine is a whole bunch easier than fighting raiders in my book, but Acrah is whining about her "duty".  Well, I'm helping her on her mission, so she can help me with looting this joint.  Besides, maybe she'll get to waste a spaceworm or two.

Well, at least we made it back from the mine in one piece.  I figured that the mine had been abandoned when it was played out, not because of an infestation of worms, shils and murderous fungi.  They weren't even done picking the meat of the bones of the last poor bastard that wandered in there.  But in the end, we score a pretty spiffy looking katana and a bucket of bolts Buru Buru that cold be worth some bank.  Acrah was also interested in some rock, but we sure as hell couldn't drag it back to the mecha.

Acrah claims she is fine, but she's getting a little green behind the kills.  Normally, I'd say that she is sickened at the slaughter we engaged in, but she probably just got bit by one of those shils and is too proud to accept an antibiotic pill, time for a trip to the doctor.

On the way back to the station, sure as hell we stumbled over a couple of unknown mecha.  Acrah wanted to attack, but in her shape, I suggested that we leave them alone and come back later.  We compromised and I followed them to their meeting with the rest of the raiders while she guarded the spoils from the mine.  At least we know where they are, maybe Veamyk will be up for sending a lance of Savin to clean them out.

On our return, rumors are swirling that Coneym lost something precious on the bottom of the mine.  Hmm, I was just there and all that I found was a dead body, this cool katana and a rusty old Buru Buru.  Maybe he had some attachment to that old hunk of junk.  Or that body was his chick or something...

Athera Hospital - Athera Spinner
Well the doctor was able to convince Acrah to get a shot of antibiotics and she is back to he peppy self now, too bad the doctor doesn't have anything to help take the edge off that.  Veamyk is useless, "if you've found them, you can take care  of them".  Yeesh, thanks for the help sis.  Maybe she was right and this is a suicide mission...  Before heading out, I boosted my M. Gunnery to 5 and Conversation to 2 (maybe that will get me better info next time!), and boosted Acrah M. Piloting to 4.  The Steel Tool Buru Buru (must be one of those "metal beasts" the shopkeeper mentioned) from the mine is halfway decent, Slag missiles, a Jackhammer and a mining laser.  I'll keep it as a backup.

Spaceport - Athera Spinner
On the way back out of the station, we ran into Coneym (28 year old male samurai) crying about his lost weapon.  Damn, this guy wants my katana!  Well, finders keepers and all that jazz, next time try offering a reward you loser.  Oooow, you won't forget that I have taken it, I'm so scared, I hope there are some worms and mushrooms around to protect me when next we meet.  Loser.

Athera Spinner Exterior
As we approached the meeting point we were hailed by Emrno (20 year old male).  He informed us that Arxyso wasn't available and that he and his buddy would be fighting us.  Okay, I wasn't looking for his boss, I just wanted them to stop loitering so I can get paid.  These guys are taking as bad as Acrah.  Well, no holding back Acrah now, she charges into battle and fires barrage after barrage into Emrno's partner Ulzli Lek's Haiho.  His cockpit collapses before he can eject, her first enemy in her first battle is her first kill.  Seriously, I'll have to stop giving money to those monks handy out flowers at the spaceport if they are training killers like her.  Emrno's Haiho doesn't last much longer, though he manages to eject in time.  Great, at least if she had killed him too we wouldn't have to worry about another loser holding a grudge.

I salvage the remains of the fallen Haihos and recover their weapons and some armor.  Should be worth a fair bit, probably more than I'm going to get paid for this mission.

Athera Hospital - Athera Spinner
Veamyk seems oddly disappointed that we survived the mission, jerk.  At least the pay was decent, $27080.  She asks what my plans are from here, do I want to go help people, head to the action, or even just upgrade my mecha.  Hmm, really, I want to convince Acrah to go to a nunnery, Catholics nuns are still not trained killers right?  But, as this is probably the end of the chapter, I ask the readers, if there are any, what should I choose?  What should be my slacker pirate wannabe's goal?  Ryoko has 325 unspent XP and Acrah has around 750 XP.  We have about $55,000.  I can solve the rest of the missions here or head off to wherever Veamyk is going to send me.  What say you?

If anybody comes up with a proposed course of action which isn't in the game, I'll add it.

A few thoughts regarding the playthrough so far:
- The friend in the "Join the Navy" plot is randomly generated. Maybe I should make them a generic mecha pilot instead?
- There's not a lot of THIEF-type characters to do, so far. There need to be some components specifically for this job type.
- The defeated warrior GainAdvantage subplot needs an option where you can taunt the NPC for losing. Since you didn't want backup anyhow this would've been a great option for Ryoko.
- Maybe an end-of-episode choice to seek out a pirate fleet to join?
- Characters in the default (beginning) story state should have greater control over their path. In addition, very few characters should begin in that state- the opening scenario needs to set up a conflict so the PC begins with some slight idea of what's happening.

I can buy anyone choosing to join the navy, but it is a bit funny to listen to a 17 year monk get all bloodthirsty like that.

Well, you've got a few day, maybe a week to add them to the SVN ;) I'll compile from source before each chapter.

Yes, the game definite does lack chances to be a jerk when people deserve it.  That guy gets his tail shot off and has the gall to be all high and mighty to the PC about "if he couldn't beat them, what chance do they stand?".  Actually, if your Rep is high enough vs. the episode, maybe he should be more obsequious.

Also, I wanted to taunt sword boy too, sucker couldn't handle a couple fungi and a shil or two?  His response after I toward him I was keeping it was begging for a snide comeback.

- Maybe an end-of-episode choice to seek out a pirate fleet to join?

Too specific.  Not to skew the results or anything, but I was thinking more an option of "Off to find a way to make a quick buck and retire".

Don't try to set up too much up front.  I'd prefer to have the few few episodes be used to gage how the PC is being played and then to spin the story accordingly.  Anime does this all the time, the first few episodes set the stage and introduce the characters and once the audience is comfortable, the main story kicks in.

I vote for 'Heading to the action' - sounds the most like earning a quick buck.

Helping people - isn't sufficiently pirate-y.

Upgrading your mecha - only if you're having trouble completing missions, otherwise you're ready to up your pay grade.

I assure you, I have no idea what you are talking about ;)

I certainly haven't been looking forward to the screen sharing feature of Skype (for Ubuntu) allowing me to rope some of you folks into helping do a narrated playthrough of the next major release ;)

Personally, I love how this is currently.  After all, why should the PC be the only possible 17 year old monk who wants to join the navy?  But different lines would add more character to the friend.

Tonight's commit has a few new core story components that may be of use for Ryoko. Or, then again, maybe not.

Going back to that "Off to find a way to make a quick buck and retire" choice for a minute... I am intrigued by this idea and wish to subscribe to your newsletter. I agree that it's an attractive choice in this case. What should it actually do, though?

Maybe it could lead to a few missions that increase renown more quickly but are correspondingly more difficult/dangerous.

Instead of defeating a faction, could there be endings where the character tries to pull off a big (job/heist/treasure hunt/corporate takeover) that will make a huge profit (possibly also bankrupting an enemy faction) and end with them retiring?

Do the choices made during character creation(occupation, background, goals, what is most important) have much affect on the core story?

I think Ryoko would really look forward to a job that promises big bucks at no risk.  Like a rumor that a freighter with a load of Impervium was abandoned nearby and only my buddy knows where.

Last chance vote on which direction the next chapter will take, I'll be playing it tomorrow and I'll try to post early Tuesday.

Alright, back in the saddle.  I think I've left this knucklehead Veamyk hanging long enough.  Sure lady, I want to go where the action is.  Hopefully that will be far away from here, where a I can score some decent loot without have my tail shot off by wannabes.  With those raiders out of the way, you can lend me Acrah for a little while eh?  I promise I'll keep her on her leash but let her stomp on whoever you guys are fighting these days.  Well, seems she agrees, recommending I head to Tohru spinner to find work.  Yeah, I'm sure there's lots of hot blooded action going on welding steel plates on their busted up station.

But, before I head out, I seem to recall some loose end to tie up here.  First, some frat boys to hassle.   Improved Taunt to 3.  First up, Sonauta Wicla (26 year old male knight) appears to have gotten he mecha fixed already, too bad.  Maybe better luck with Cirafe Eeti (22 year old male police officer)?  Nope, his is fixed too.  Well, I'll have to act quicker next time I guess.  Even teasing Coneym can't cheer me up, he seems to have forgotten how much of a loser he is too.

Well, I did have a tip on a pricey art piece or something.  Giving Omhhan (22 year old male knight) a call to find out where Ehy Hulepo is hiding.  Great, this bozo is some kind of character, someone calls him up looking for a little info and suddenly he thinks he is the Merovingian?  Okay, I'm listening … and he happily informs me that Ehy Hulepo is hiding somewhere inside the spinner, probably.  Grrr, he's lucky I can't reach through this phone and strangle him!  Hiding “somewhere in the station”, “maybe” great advice, remind me to kick you in the teeth later.

Athera Spinner Interior
Well, as luck would have it, it seems that  Ehy Hulepo (19 year old male thief) has decided to install a big neon sign with an arrow labelled “MY HIDEOUT HERE, no police invited”.  We have a real rocket scientist here, hopefully I can beat the cops to him.

Ehy Hulepo's Hideout - Athera Spinner
We confront him in the hideout.  He seems confused at our arrival, but at least we got here first.  He claims Euneco Ybvze ordered him to steal the skull.  Interesting, maybe there is a serious player in this town after all.  Let's try a little buff and see if we can't get our hands on that skull without needing to splatter his guts on the wall.  As I thought, the numbskull bought that I was from his boss and just handed the thing over.  Score.  Though, I'm guessing that Euneco Ybvze won't be too thrilled at this development.  Hmm, well, it doesn't look like Euneco Ybvze's number is in the phone directory, not I big surprise I guess... Well, if he comes looking for it we'll cross that bridge when it happens.  Great, now Acrah has got her mitts on the the thing and she is convinced that it is talking to her.  A battlecrazed 17-year ols monk that is hearing voices from a crystal skull.  That's all I need.  Let's hope I can pry it away from her long enough to hawk it.

Cavalier's Club - Athera Spinner
$2669!?  Seriously, this thing is a priceless relic and that's all you are willing to pay for it?!  Damn, maybe that school teacher will be willing to pay something decent to get it back.  And, Picxyd Hewcho isn't offer a reward.  What, you think I collected this thing for my health?  Well, then finders keepers.  And another person swear eternal vengeance on us.  Seriously, I think one of her students could have tricked that idiot into handing over this thing.
Improved Acrah's M. Gunnery and Piloting to 5.

Spaceport – Athera Spinner
Good bye Athera, it's been real.  Maybe we'll have better luck over on Tohru.

Tohru Spinner
From the travel brochure - “Tohru Spinner used to be one of the most important industrial stations until it was badly damaged by a meteor strike. These days it is rebuilding, hoping to regain its former greatness.”
Translation - “Please excuse the mess”
Now to find some action!  Hmm... No bar... No night club... okay, maybe the mall?  Some of the spinners are hardcore enough to serve booze at malls now, right?

Tohru Mall – Tohru Spinner
Creative name, the folks on this spinner seem to name everything after themselves, the spinner itself, or  friggin' asteroid that put a hole in it.  Well, looks like I am doomed to sobriety, nothing but shops and a monk in the mall.  Speaking of which, Acrah dragged me over to the shrine the monk tends.  She just had to get some prayer beads, I told her that she has plenty at home, but she insisted that these where somehow better and might help her hear what the creepy skull was telling her.  $3000?!  Damn, that's more than I was offered for that flamin' skull in the first place!  Well, whatever, when she gives me those puppy dog eyes I can't help be remember how she enjoy tearing her foes into little pieces.  The beads are hers.  Wouldn't be surprised if she has a garrote hidden in those thing.

Well, the trip wasn't a complete waste.  Looks like the bigwig McCabe is having a problem with his reconstruction project.  I'm sure an enterprising duo like us can profit from is problems.  I also picked up a sight for my revolver and a couterbalance for my katana.  At a general store, I picked up some chocolate and grenades.  I'll be damned if the chocolate didn't cost more.  It must be a pain to import it.

On the way out, we ran into Miawuf (25 year old male mecha pilot) bragging about how the FCS is handing out jobs to freelancers.  Well money's money, so I inquired further, only to be told that the FCS doesn't hire folks as boorish as I. GRRR , he's damned lucky he dematerialized before I could get my katana out.  First name on the list, Miawuf.  Next time I run into him, he gets the business end of a katana in the ribs!

Meteor Center – Tohru Spinner
Well this seems to be the nerve center of this operation.  Exploring, it seems like I was right, Okniki (25 year old male politician) has offered me a job to remove some unauthorized mecha from outside the station.  Thanks, but the last time I took a mission like that, I had to deal with a bunch of monomaniacal wannabes.  Acrah offered a brief prayer to those killed during the meteor strike, I think I heard her offer her condolences that they were denied the opportunity to die in glorious combat, classy.  After taunting some police about how they suck at maintaining law and order, Kenoc Osn revealed that Miawuf was out patrolling, revenge will be mine!

Tohru Station Exterior
Looks like revenge will have to wait, Miawuf refused to show his face, he is clearly intimidated by me.

Spaceport – Tohru Spinner
Looks like Iymvu Uyb, Gunukat and Xelmai banged up their mecha, clearly the lack of bars in this town has driven the populace to binge drink whenever they can get their hands on booze.   Hmm, none of them seem to want to talk about it.

Tohru Spinner Interior
Without any other prospects, I give McCabe a call to see if I line my pockets with his government project. Seems like there are problems at the work site and it would be a great help if I went and fixed it.  A bit vague and a bit lacking in promised reward, but I'll give it a shot.  The teamsters are probably pissed that they are only getting 2 hours for lunch.  Best case I might score a contact with some of those cool organized crime types that always seem to be cozy with the union boys.
McCabe's Project – Tohru Spinner
Spoke with the foreman Estaroc Alacd (29 year old female foreman
) about the problems with the project.  Seems that there is a fungus infestation and the exterminator they hired did a sloppy job.  Hmm, offer to wipe out the fungus myself or tell McCabe to avoid lazy drunks, suck a tough choice.

Chatting McCabe, it seems that the tightwad would rather have me take care kill them instead of hiring a qualified professional.  The incompetence starts at the top in this project.  Okay, sure, we'll go kill some fungus, Acrah is tickled pink to engage in slaughter.  I'd better get paid.  Improved Close Combat to 3.

So down the elevator we go, sleeves rolled up and weapons drawn.  Fortunately, the first exterminator must have spent most of this funds on bathtub booze and porno vids because aside from a few gremlins, the job is a cake walk.  Find the spore-spewer, mince it, repeat until done.  If only all jobs could be so easy.  Acrah even got to use some of her fancy footwork to kick a few rats to death.

Back topside, I try to tell the foreman the good news, he seems happy enough, we'll see if he can get those lazy union boys back on the job before the spinner health inspector and job safety committee give the site their blessing.  As a reward for helping him, McCabe gives us a surplus industrial mecha.  Okay, I would have accepted cash, but mecha convert to cash pretty easy in these parts.  Checking the registry, Type: Trailblazer … not bad, not great, but not bad … Model: Heavy Duty Tool … Okay, overcompensating much?  Guess it will fit in nicely with my Steel Tool Buru Buru at least.  Equipment: Industrial Burner and Nail Gun.  Well the Nail Gun sucks, but the Industrial Burner rocks pretty hard  as a DC10x10 weapon with BURN and LINE.  Even if I sell the mecha, I'll have to hang on to that baby.

End of part 1 of episode 2.  As the page count creeps ever higher on this one, I'll take a break here as there is no story plot in sight.  As there aren't any real decisions to be made at this point, I'll try session posted tomorrow.  In the meantime, feedback time.  How do you like the style so far?  Too long?  Too random?  You'd actually want to hear the blow by blow in combat?  Speak up and I'll see what I can do to keep it interesting.

It would help me if you'd include a point list of things I should fix/improve in the campaign. While narrating in character Ryoko complains about everything, but I don't take that to mean that you as a player are suggesting GH2 should offer more missions with no risk and huge rewards.

Regarding the "X knows where Y is" bit: two problems I can see. First, X's dialog is bad, implying that they just give the PC a hint rather than an exact location for Y. Second, if Y is in the main scene of the city, the message seems ambiguous. Certain scenes should have a secondary name which gets used when giving directions. When talking about the city itself, NPCs would say "Athera Spinner" or "Cayley Rock". To direct the PC to these exact scenes, NPCs would say "Athera Spinner Interior" or "Cayley Rock Main Station".

Okay here's problems or improvements I've spotted so far:

* X's mecha is in the shop - X doesn't seem to care and there doesn't seem to be any purpose to this plot.
* Recover stolen object - The thief mentions a boss, but he doesn't seem to exist, or serve any roll after the mission is completed.  I was hoping to attempt to negotiate for a better price from him.
* In general people expect you to "do" now and worry about pay later.  Rarely is there an option for the player to choose "Sure, I'll deal with your problem, but like's talk dollars and cents first"
* People that swear to get even with you don't horribly mind chatting with you later.  They don't mention how much they hate you or anything.
* More bars and clubs needed.
* Miawuf teleported out of the room after talking with me, and I couldn't find him on the exterior map (+0 sensors, though).  If I found him, could I have fought him with "A"?
* Chocolate costs about 7 times more than grenades.
* No lazy man's option to go find the original exterminator and make him do his job.
* No option to blackmail McCabe for more pay (I think I saw some endangered mushrooms down there, pay up or I'm going to the FCS-EPA, need Science)
* No option to negotiate with "unauthorized mecha", I'd be willing to split the reward with them in exchange for them taking their party to a different spinner.
* Every spinner should have somebody that straddles the law, offering "preowned" merchandise and the like.

Not for you, no.

The boss will show up later.

In those cases, it's usually because the plot generator doesn't know the exact reward at that point. Is there a practical reason for such an option or merely aesthetic?

Good point. At the moment there's not much of a downside to making lots of enemies; there should be.

Do you mean you wanted to attack him in the building, or find his mecha patrol and attack that?

I don't know why Miawuf teleported out of the room; probably a mission plot was generated at exactly that moment. Yes, you could have attacked him with "A" if he remained in the building. The city heat system isn't properly set up yet, though, so doing that wouldn't likely have any more consequences than making you villainous and setting the building guards to permanent attack.

If he were on patrol, I don't think there's any way to attack him unless you're already an enemy of his faction.

I see, it is a ssssssercet ;)  It would be cool to see mecha that are "in the shop" show up in an alcove of a mechanic's shop though.

A little of both.  The only reason those missions stick out is that they are one of a kind.  While playing, I tend to cherry pick those and play only enough standard missions as is needed to keep my mecha up to date.  If a few of the one-offs could appear the same as the regular missions, it would break the tedium some.

Next section should be up tonight, though I am having a bit of a problem tracking down the plot in Tohru.  I might have to peer into the the Savegame  :-\

So that you could steal them...? That gives me a good idea, actually. Right now any mecha-owning character can be selected for this plot, so at any given time there could be three or four NPCs in town waiting around on the mechanic. What about if I added a "door to mecha bay" prop to the mechanic's shop, and in order for this plot to load it would need to gain exclusive access to the prop? That way, only one mecha pilot at a time could be waiting per mechanic. Also, it would give a way to steal their mecha (which should be pretty difficult, and based on the owner's renown rather than the PC's).

Another good idea would be if the mechanic accosts you for taking away too much of their business. :)

Alright. I think it should be possible to do this by adding a new mechanism similar to the hint used in the core story. In fact, I don't even think I need a new mechanism- just attach hints to all the rewards describing what the PC will earn.

Check the news. There's one event which is supposed to broadcast a news message and a rumor, but for whatever reason the rumor doesn't work.
