Very nice! Jondi's hair and jacket look a little thin though.  :-\

male singer

female athlete; not too happy with this one. It's supposed to be a female in shorts/tanktop/wristband/headband, but doesn't really look like it.

I think one problem with the athlete is her posture- the head is too far forward, making it look like she's slouching. At this small scale it's hard to tell a track uniform from a bikini; to make it more unambiguously athletic, maybe replace the top with a jersey.

Personally, I would prefer if the whole game was scaled slightly bigger to allow for slightly larger sprites. (Perhaps by about x1.2 or x1.25 ?) As you say, it's so small that it is very difficult to make out the details, even in my rather modest 1024 x 768 screen resolution.

Then again, much of the sprites and artwork has been made at this size and a change in scale might necessitate remaking them...

Redoing all the artwork would be a PITA. Many of the sprites are based on 3D models, which could be rerendered easily enough but it'd take a long time to go through all of them. Some of the sprites are hand drawn, though, and for others the 3D models have been lost. It would be a major endeavor.

Personally, I think the current size is good. You're right, of course, that you can't get much details at this scale. On the other hand, if the sprites were bigger then you wouldn't be able to see as far on the map. Even now combat usually takes place beyond the screen edge.

Some portraits I've been meaning to post for a while now.  I wanted to do some more portraits of characters that need them, but it's coming along more slowly then I thought they would.

Did Ladi ever get his tablet fixed? Sounded like he had a bunch of new portraits partially finished.

I believe her tablet is fixed, but since she just became a mother I think it's going to be a while before we see any new portraits. :)

Ah, my mistake. And congratulations Ladi!

Thanks from me, my husband, and our new little baby :)

Wow, I love all of those.  Especially the masked soldier and the old guy, though I couldn't rightly say why.

Some very awesome work there! Your shading's obviously improved, though it was already very nice, there's a bigger variety of character types here, 's all good stuff...

But mainly I just wanted to say if one of my core enemies isn't a blonde dude in a mask I will sue somebody. |:

Although having the old lady as a core enemy (especially with a "Junior" attitude) could several kinds of awesome too.

Those are great! I think the old lady is my favourite of the lot.

And congratulations to you and your family! :).

How hard would it be to support higher-resolution screens - not to change the size of the bitmaps, but to change the amount of the field you see? I guess SDL makes it hard to resize on the fly, but at least a config option (including weird widescreen resolutions) would give most people some more elbow room.

I just generated a basic mode character: Gonzo, the investigative journalist.

Upon starting the campaign: Wait... what am I wearing?... is that a sailor fuku?! :o

Since journalism is a MEDIA profession, male journalists have to dress like male singers. While I liked seeing wipmeeniebom's new sprites in-game, it's very jarring to see my journalist dressed like a Japanese schoolgirl. Ironically, I think that the male student sprite would be the best replacement.

EDIT: Actually could we replace the female student sprite with wipmeeniebom's better looking male singer sprite and use a copy of the male student sprite for male media characters?
