Would be cool if there was a "group photo" of all the character sprites, sort of like this:

http://www.spacefacts.de/groups/large/english/nasa-15.htm

We could then use it as a loading screen.

I think the main problem with that is that the sprites all currently have distinctly different styles.  Put them all together on one screen, and it becomes even more apparent.  Maybe putting together sprites that look like they're part of a set would work better than putting every sprite.

On a semi-related note, finished this sprite and template not too long ago.

I did this version of the Martian princess, keeping in mind that Mr Hewitt once said that she was based on Dejah Thoris.  I hope to create variations of all the sprites, but that may take some time depending on how busy I'm going to be in the coming months.  I'm putting together an art portfolio and preparing for a move as well as taking care of my little boy, but I hope to get it done quickly :)

I think there's enough of Ladi's character portraits to fill up an entire loading screen... so a loading screen for each artist...

Ladi- You're absolutely right. Having you draw the sprites would be beyond awesome. At the very least, having you draw many of the sprites would enable us to establish a signature look which the rest of us can try to follow.

Oops, I meant character portraits, not sprites.  :-[  You're right, you've probably made enough of them to fill a loading screen all by yourself!

Nice work!

[edit]
Also, it might be a good idea to think ahead and make the sprites (not portraits LOL) a bit higher resolution in case GH goes high-res in the future! They can always be scaled down if need be...

Its a pity she can't work on those portraits/sprites full-time.
Also, consider that sprite downloaded and in-use. :p

Also, how about wanted posters, mugshot/rap sheets, concert posters, election posters for the fixed characters? "Vote Megi for mayor!" "Wanted for piracy: Elric" "Come watch Sheryl live!" They'd incorporate the fixed portrait for the fixed character, and give you a taste of the world. Vegastrike's loading screens (which you stare at a lot longer, particularly if you can't get it to run properly) include propaganda posters from various factions, which could be a fun addition. "Come work for L5Law!" "Aegis will keep you safe!"

If GH2 acquires "flavour images/text" (Maybe shown briefly on entering spinners/buildings? Billboards? Notice boards?) one could even generate these on the fly based on NPCs (or the PC, or events) in the game world.

I'm usually pretty good with slang and acronyms. However, I'm always confused by usage of "FTW":
Though what sort of doom machine would be appropriate for what amounts to a lovecraftian god-being mixed with uber-pilot boggles the mind. I don't think GH2 could model it, hah.

Ladon + Cetus + Typhon + Argoseyer + Savin = Biotech/Gundam Mecha God

EDIT: Argoseyer/Savin variable fighter FTW. 8)

Given the context and usage, I'm guessing this means "For Those Wondering". But couldn't it also mean "For The Win"?

Check this page of slang usage out and then tell me FTW isn't confusing:
What does FTW stand for?
I'm particularly surprised that this list is sorted by rank (or popularity of use). Personally, I avoid acronyms whenever they might confuse readers.

Anyway, I've noticed that, until recently, there hasn't been any activity in this topic.

You're searching in the wrong place. :o

In almost all internet based communication mediums, FTW = For The Win. ;)

Put together a few more sprites:

Also wanted to get your opinion about this. We could rearrange the sprites with the main sprite to one side and a face-only view on the other; this smaller pic would get used when just looking at models on the map. The extra space could be used for artists to include a short signature, like so:

For mecha, the portrait could be a close up view of the mecha's head (or sensor port, or whatever part of the mecha is most identifiable). Since all the mecha portraits were done at high res and shrunk down it would be no problem to make the mini-portrait a higher magnification than the full-body portrait.

Nice. I like how the lines are fairly crisp.

Hey guys.  Just started playing Gearhead last night.  Felt like making a portrait.

Now I think it won't fit in with the other portraits.  I should have made it look more like anime.
