A little help please...
« on: September 07, 2006, 05:36:01 PM »
First off, awesome game. I've been in gamelock for the past three days now playing GH1 1.002. Just a couple of questions:

1) For upgrading v1.002 to v1.010, do I use the old 1.002 'Series' directory, or do I delete that and use the 1.010 'Series' directory? Sorry, the instructions were a bit unclear to me.

2) From Hwang-Sa Temple I get missions which run like this: "You must go to xxx and find a PreZero artifact." How exactly am I supposed to go about it? Am I supposed to look for a new dungeon entrance in the city map? Do I have to walk over every pixel of ground?

3) Is there any way for me to try and get back characters which split from my lance because I was villainous?

4) Things I've seen in v1.002:

* 2 characters occupying the same space
* a filing cabinet outside the mansion in 'gathering evidence' missions
* one grenade burning said mansion down faster than my character could get out. That made me laugh--it reminded me of those old Disney cartoons where the firefighters plug their hose into their truck's gas supply instead of the water. POOF! The whole map was full of % signs.

1. I usually just put it in a new directory, just in case the new version is less stable; take the .txt file of my saved game over to the next one if I feel the need. You should wait for better input, though, as I'm not sure of your needs. Are you compiling the program yourself, or anything like that?
2. Talk to people; mostly, it's a matter of taking what they say on faith. For instance, if they say they have a Treasure Map, buy it. If they say they need help with something, help them. Once you've found the eventual object of this odd task, whatever it may be, scan over it with science or mysticism. If that doesn't offer you much info on the item, go back to the person who gave you the mission; then head back to the temple and report to the person who gave you the broader task of finding the artifact.
It's a little odd, but I've always loved Hwang-Sa missions. :)
3. If so, I've never found out how.
4. Yeah, I've actually fished out damning evidence from a file cabinet which had burnt entirely down, while the tile was on fire. Very funny.

Hello.

1. No, it's just that I couldn't figure out if the v1.010 zip was saying 'delete the 1.010 Series directory first if installing over 1.002' or 'delete the 1.002 Series directory before overwriting everything with the contents of 1.010.' I just don't want to invalidate my savegame or something. Heaven knows I've done blunders like that many times in the past.

2. Sigh... I wanted that Martian princess as a lancemate. How was I to know that trying to sell found wallets and shooting your lancemates with smoke rockets was villainous? Oh well.

3. Do tarcomps stack? Is my 100-ton Chimentero better off with two Class 9 Targeting Computers than just one?

No, Tarcomps, Sensors and ECM do not stack. The only benefit is that if you install two or more, one in the head and one in say, the body..If the head is destroyed the body units will continue providing the bonuses.

Err, selling wallets is just chaotic and friendly fire is villanous only afaik.

Another tip is that it only counts as friendly fire if you specificaly target a lancemate.

(Another mistaken guestpost)

Which means you could hit her with, say, a nuke if it merely targetted her area.
"Whoops!"
That said, I'm rather fond of dropping in a token sensor system in the body while placing the real one in the head, if I'm pilotting a mech which has a head. Otherwise, no real benefit, no.

Indeed, one of the most annoying things possible is to have all your sensorgear in the head and then have a lucky shot cripple them all in one swoop.

One thing to note is that lawful lancemates will leave your party because of chaotic acts as well as villainous ones.

Oh sorry, forgot about that. I was, uh, learning the game rules as I played. Now I'm surprised I made it as far as I did with a Corsair full of Shaka Cannons and NO ARMOR. Sheesh.

Yes, a lesson I learned the hard way... oh well, guess I'll have my character take the Robotics skill and hope to build a lancemate, like I read others here have done. Now I must go back to tweaking my flying Chimentero with the four NUKE-1s. Heheheh... anyone know where I can get a couple of Class 8-10 flight jets?

Can't purchase them, only scavenge. At the point in the game you seem to be at, I tend to purchase whole mecha just for a few exclusive components, like those super flight jets and such.
I usually find that I get less money on any given mission than it takes to reload the missiles, but DAMN if they're not FUN! Besides, four makes you very well-equipped to hose the end boss.

Frankly, I learned as I went, too. It's fun. :)
My input: Robotics rocks.

Agreed, It's a pity that you can't modify robots (non self-aware or otherwise) the same way you modify Mecha.

It's possible to add any class of movement (Jets, Wheels, Etc), sensors, tarcomps, etc by modifying the Mek_Equipment.txt in ./design folder.

True. I was restricting my answer to in-game-availability, of which there is some sort thereof... but, frankly, it's spendy as hell, 'cause you're buying a whole mech.
