Shadow of the Beast

I haven't been around these forums of late (basically shortly after my last post here I rediscovered Dwarf Fortress...), but my interest was attracted by last week's post on Ataraxia regarding the classic game Shadow of the Beast 2.

I actually own two Amigas, and Shadow of the Beast 1, 2, and 3.  I'd agree that they are hard.  1 and 2 are tricky even with invulnerability cheats.  3 is merely Nintendo Hard -- but an invulnerability cheat would not help, since the difficulty is in two puzzles in levels 3 and 4 that are easily botched.

That video makes it look so easy, what with all the potions the player declined.

Regarding the ending that disappointed Joseph, I'd say it's not just the ending.  SotB 2 was melancholy through and through.  SotB 1 was a much brighter game.  (Spiritually, SotB 2 is less of a sequel to SotB 1 than another company's game, Wrath of the Demon.)

I know. The one that gets me the potion right before Zalek- especially since he almost runs out of health during that fight.

I liked the melancholy atmosphere in the game; the depressing part of the ending is that it's just a plain wall of text. After all the beautiful imagery leading up to that point it was a bit of a disappointment.
