New Look - Like it or leave it?

Here's a couple of screenshots of a tileset I'm working on. You'll notice that the tile edges have been enhanced. Personally, I think the new trees look kind of cruddy.

Looks good, with the exception of the trees. Try it with the old trees? It might combine nicely.

Gorram it.
Besides, I always thought the trees were one of GH's strong points.

Here it is again, except with the old pine trees. I'm not real happy with the colors. (This, after I thought I'd finalized the lighting scheme.)

Looks realy good if you ask me :).

As a side note -- it's funny to see that my door tile somehow made it up to this version ^_^.

I found the texture you used for the door on one of those free texture sites.

I wish I could come up with some new ideas for interior wall sprites.

I like this tile set. The old trees really do work well with it, too.

I uploaded the tileset to my site:

http://www.geocities.com/mikehorvath.geo/gearhead.   htm

Note: since the images are all in PNG format, in order for the tileset to work you'll need to use a text search and replace tool to replace all instances of the string '.bmp' with the string '.png' in all files in the gearhead directory, including 'arena.exe'.

[imgs= \"\"]World map with new city set.[/imgs]

Shark, i have been making a few changes in my tilesets and thought that maybe someone wanted to see it.

Well, even if only to laugh at me, but here are them.

Made the grass a little more real.. I know we have people who want a more real look and others who prefer a cartoon look.. I myself don't have a good opinion on this yet.

I also have a modified Savin with Condor wings.. and I made a new model by using the parts of the original ones. If anyone wants it just tell me.

But see my pics and tell me what you think.

I love the terrain but can something be done about the mountains? They have always bugged me. It's just the dimples in the top, maybe if the top of each model was 5 peaks or something.

@belanus: That looks really good. I should try texturing my grass more, like you have. I also like how your trees a large enough for mecha battles. I wish that map/mecha/personal scale used different tree sprites.

I've been experimenting with hills that look like this:

The problem is that they look worse than the current hills when they're added into the game.

Got a screenshot of those hills in the game? It might give us something to work from. Maybe a little less shading difference on the ones that are not summits.

Here's an old screenshot of similar hills. Personally, I think they look pretty crappy.

That's something, yes. Can you try to render one real quick with the tileset shown above? It looks slightly better.
Personally, I think this has potential.
