GearHead2 v0.611
« on: August 21, 2009, 06:43:11 AM »
It's just been uploaded, yadda yadda yadda. Here are the highlights from the change log:

Modified the Steel Arena: That problem with Kodie taking out half the patrons shouldn't happen anymore, and getting there should be less annoying. Also, a mechanic has been added to the lounge.

Added "Uniform" scene tag: If a scene is marked as "Uniform", encounters will always use the same map generator. What does it mean? No more forests or lakes on Cayley and Clund.

Modified the Pixie mecha: I felt that the Pixie wasn't really working. It's a small mecha, meaning that it doesn't have much endurance, but all of its weapons were low-damage attrition types. I've upgraded its weapons and changed its layout a bit. Also, there is now only one version.

Salvage changes: Tech Vulture has been changed. It now allows you to salvage destroyed enemy mecha. There's a small chance for characters without the talent to salvage destroyed mecha, but not much of a chance. I thought this change had been made in v0.600 but apparently not.

Enemy ejection changes: Enemies are more likely to eject if their weapons are disabled. When talking with an enemy to force an ejection, the difficulty number is now influenced by situational factors. The factors taken into account are relative team sizes, the relative damage status of the PC, the mobility of the NPC and whether or not it has any weapons left.

SocSkillTar function: Social skill rolls will be easier if the NPC you're talking to likes you, and harder if the NPC hates you. This function may need some adjustment; right now it seems like it's a lot harder to get job offers, though I don't know whether or not it's any harder than it was in GH1.

Those are the exciting points. Go try it out and let me know what you think.

Argg...and I was at the final battle scene for 0.610

Those protraits you added were done by Jetrel (Richard Kettering) not kitty.

After checking the svn changes, I submit those as bugs for this version as no file was touched related to them:

Sometimes after figthing the roaming thief and calling the bounty hunter from the encounter scene, the marker stays there (with nothing inside)

The battle with Kolo sometimes keeps the hideout after the duel (if you dont rat him but had talked to the police/hunter) and you are stuck with the memo about it.

I was unable to find the spaceship where Hammel went to prove himself, even after having talked to the guy who found it. (Tried to fix it, I found that in the save file the scene names were lacking the closing ">" , but it didn't work)

Oops on the portaits. I'll change that right away.

Go talk with Kolo again.

Regarding Hammel- was this in a campaign started in v0.611 or your v0.610 campaign? This issue should be fixed, but only if the campaign was started in v0.611.

Really bloody minor, but I just noticed the Secutor mech's Arena Cannon doesn't have ammo, due to the Magazine tag whatsit being in the ammo entry rather than the gun one.

Same for the Daum gun. It got mangled in last ammon/gun update.

Could there be an option in future versions to make the Roll History more verbose? i.e. list all factors and their modifiers? Stuff like TR-speed[target speed here]: -10
It seems to me that roll history is often the best way to figure out game mechanics (don't mean to rush you with that documentation! ^^;;). Also, good for debugging purposes.

There is a bug in the "aslmacro.txt" file the line 305 is:
IfPCHasPerformance <GrabPCPilot ifGHasSkill 35>

but it should be

IfPCHasPerformance <GrabPCPilot ifGHasSkill NAS_Performance>

as performance skill now has another number, this makles all perfomance (in bars, etc...) content unavailable to the player.
EDIT:better fix

I'm currently playing through the Galena Hodges quest in Gaos Spinner and encountered what seems like a bug.  Sorry for any spoilers.

...

Anyway, she asked me to find a charitable donor for an orphanage, so i did and looked for his missing kid who owes some smuggler money.  I killed the smuggler and went back to the charitable donor to report.  He thanked me for my efforts, but the following message appeared in my info box:

WARNING:  Script value %PREV_QID%
CONTEXT: 2.

I have no idea what that means, but i went back and reloaded the game, did not kill the smuggler and instead paid off the debt, and i still get the same message.

EDIT:  Because I have no idea how that happened, I started a new game and began as a mercenary in Gaos Spinner, first thing I did was do the Galena Hodges quest, but the charitable donor is a completely different scenario, where some shopkeeper wants his shop rid of some rats in his basement.  No such message appeared.

As a side note, I thought this was supposed to have a guaranteed lancemate?  I guess I still need renown for that.  But anyway, I went on a bit more with that game and did the starting quest.  I met up with some friend in a plaza which got randomly attacked by mecha outside.  I defeated them, and went back in.  My friend says he'd feel safer if he joins my lance, so I invite him to join, but he tells me he has better things to do than join my lance.

Oops. The "Join" function doesn't check to see if they're already in the lance... better fix that.

Talk to the orphans after completing the quest. One of them will become your ally.

Okay, I found the orphans.  One of them is my ally but has better things to do than join my lance.  I guess he still wants me to have a bit of renown/charm before he joins up.

Also, whenever I travel between spinners (via the ticket agent), my PC goes very hungry during transit, but is full upon arrival.  Is this normal?  I kind of assumed that the PC was given some complimentary meal during the travel.  This usually happens regardless if I eat before leaving or not.

It's a bug. The trip takes several hours, during which time the PC gets hungry, but then has hunger removed at the end (the free meal). I need to add a way to pass time without increasing hunger.

Can't you just add a food item (with a foodvalue equivalent to the inflight meal) to the player's inventory and then make them consume it?

Question: is it feasible to travel from one spinner to another by mecha without starving to death? It's kind of hard since there's no map...
