"look at the poor little helpless thing... how utterly cute! I... I want to protect you! I insist on joining you in your adventure!"

*New Feature/Hazard - NPCs that will join your party (without asking permission) and never leave. The probability of encountering said NPCs increases with the character's charisma attribute.

Note: Yes, they do count against your lancemate total.

Haha!  However, If there's anything such as unwanted lancemates.  I think they're pretty easy to get rid of.  Just go down the some dungeons with no atmosphere, and let the poor guy follow you without sealed armor.

Indeed.  With that much CHA, I'd think anyone would have an emotional meltdown at the sight of you...

LOL!

That reminds me of the mad scientist "Spark Effect" in the Girl Genius online comics. Nearly everyone Agatha meets wants to follow her! XD

But then, that's charisma for you. Many politicians, celebrities and dictators have the stuff in spades - enough to make people follow them and generally do what they say. 'Nuff said.

*facepalm* That's what I get for calculating anything while sleep deprived. Five or six is a lot more sane, though I'd still probably root for no more than four lancemates, to keep it even with the arena mode. Maybe five, to give some allowance for the more generalized builds that RPG mode encourages.

As a side idea, maybe allow for an extensive number of lancemates, but only a limited number of assigned mecha. Blame it on limited C&C or somethin'. I keep getting this image of a pit crew for my arena teams, so something similar might be interesting.

One way, instead of a hard and east limit, might be to allow any number of lancemates for a character with high enough charisma - but if a character can have more than 4 lancemates, then (max_lancemates - 4) people with zero skills jump into your lance and refuse to leave. These can be levelled up (at, say, half the rate of a normal lancemate) but, if killed, will be replaced by another zero-skill lancemate having a charisma meltdown the moment you find a crowd (i.e. anywhere safe enough to use robotics).

How does that sound?

Tangentially related:  While training in the Cayley mines, I like to enter, run around naked 'til my health is low, then skedaddle.  It builds chara-- I mean Toughness.  And Vitality (though hidden, this is still technically a skill, right?) since I take a lot of damage.  With high enough Body + Toughness + HP, you can run around naked in hard vaccuum all you like.  You'll regenerate faster than you suffocate.  :P
