Unfinished sprite template for males and females I worked on based on the ones I posted a little while ago.  Been laying around my computer and only remembered about it now :P  I'll try creating some finished ones when I finally have the time to.

As to sprite vs 3d model, my uneducated opinion is that sprites would look much better than 3d models for characters, and that 3d models would look much better for mecha.

I agree. I was thinking the same thing.

Good work, Ladi!
I think those sprites, used as a base, should satisfy most.

Dammit, Ladi, if you had this, you should have posted sooner!  I'm already 3 frames into my template.  Here's what I had so far.

Anyway, I think they look perfect.  Let's use those.  I think 64 x 128 frame is enough for these sprites.

So, is the game going to use meshes or sprites? Either is fine, but it shouldn't use both.

Why couldn't it use 3D models for mecha and 2D images for characters?

That's the way anime do it :D

I like Ladi's templates, they're (moderately) realistic, but easily stylized.

I think a hybrid can be done, though I feel it would be best to do sprites entirely first, then meshes later, as sprites look best with minimal performance cost.

No idea yet. Still testing stuff. Nobody do anything too fancy with sprites for the time being, okay? Let's just do a few test images and see how they look first.

Here's my mechpilot.  I used Ladi's template.

I'll try making another one using the male template.  Something much simpler, I think.

I think it could be quite good, depending on how well made would be mechas and characters. Actually, I even remember some playstation jrpg was made that way - sprites in case of characters and 3d mechas. It was nice.

Also, I like that mecha pilot sprite far more than earlier one..

Aside from that, one thing gives me strange impression (it's more of weird observation, not pointing out flaw): that front 'frame' makes me think she's got Hitler's mustache :P

Here's an android model that is rendered using the same perspective as most of the mecha sprites:

It might be a good idea to match the prespective (though things seem pretty close so far).

I can't remember off the top of my head if the lighting is correct though.
