Alright, here is my second (much more successful) playthrough of GH2 O.603. Once again, I chose basic character generation and received a 27 year old female trucker I named Yukiko. As you can see above, she started with high scores in Body, Craft and Charm, low Knowledge and average scores otherwise. Her starting mecha was the SAN-X9c, a decent start, and she started with every offensive combat skill, plus conversation, dodge and repair. Offsetting the low knowledge, Yukiko was a polymath, giving her access to additional skill slots.
***Why every offensive skill for almost every basic character? With the low knowledge, this just eats up the skill slots.
Yukiko started her adventure in Gaos spinner, where her friend Erkix, informed her that Ugdupy Joyryr wanted to meet a the Third National Center later and that Galena Hodges is a friend of the poor. Before heading out, she trained up at Spot Weakness (to 3) and Mecha Fighting (to 4) and purchased some basic supplies (mobile phone and quick fix pills). She also took and won a mission against a Gaunt, salvaging its night rifle, which she exchanged with her SAN-X9c's repeater cannon. After reviewing her performance in combat, Yukiko trained in Iniative (to 3). During the mission, Yukiko had noticed an abandoned ship just waiting to be explored. Before investigating, she loaded up with a skinsuit, a patch kit, a hunting rifle with spare ammo, a longsword for doors, and some poison antidote. Armed and armored, Yukiko land at the S.S. Uugo Rogem and began investigating. On level 4, she loacted and recovered a Mighty Soldier Chameleon but was ambushed and severly injured by an Armored Fungus. Fortunately some other adventures found her and bought her to the local hospital where she recovered without complication.
***As a Gaos spinner native, shouldn't I already know about Galena Hodges?
***No one mentioned the free mecha mission, the rumor never surfaced
Fully recovered, Yukiko decided to visit Galena Hodges to she if she needs any helo with the orphans. Sure enough, she needs money for a new orphanage. Fortunately, she knows that Qizypuq Ubuuso is hosting a fancy yacht party with all the local high society. She didn't remember where they were having it, asking around led to Erkix, who pointed Yukiko in the right direction. After winning a few more missions, capturing a Skull, and improving Initative and Conversation (to 5 each), Yukiko headed to the party. After carousing with some of the other guests, I ran into Qizypuq Ubuuso who thanked me for entetaining the guests and offered to fund Galena Hodges' orphange. Dr. Hodges was overjoyed at this news.
***Are "entertain the guests" missions impossible to lose? I always seem to keep chatting with people until I win.
With nothing better to do, Yukiko met up with her friend Ugdupy Joyryr, a 24 year old male priest, called UJ by his friends. After exchanging pleasentries, UJ invited himself along on Yukiko's adventure. While concerned about how interesting an adventure she would have with a priest in tow, she concluded that if battling in mecha was how she was going to have to fund her adventure, having a lancemate like UJ around would better her odds of survival. After all, UJ had been trained as a soldier before leaving the military to join the clergy. With UJ in the party, they headed off to find adventure.
As UJ's old Wraith from his service days was a little outdated, Yukiko gave him the Mighty Soldier Chameleon from the S.S. Uugo Rogem. As they were leaving the Third National Center, UJ began questioning the Yukiko's motivation for taking this adventure. She hadn't really thought too deeply about it, but helping Galena and the orphans had made her realize that she wanted to make a real difference in the world. While Yukiko had assumed the questions were merely UJ's way of making conversation, it turns out they had a purpose, UJ was planning to use her answers to get into the proper mindset before they crashed a cavalier party. When asked where the party was, UJ pointed back to the Third National Center, mentioning that he had heard they were using one of the private rooms.
***We are crashing a party at the exact location we have just left, that seems odd.
The party seemed open to any who knew where it was being held, and Yukiko and UJ were able to get in with ease. Looking around the room, UJ spotted the famous arena pilot, Utnreyoz Iaerc. He made it clear that he wasn't leaving the party without Utnreyoz Iaerc's autograph, or invitation to a duel. Wondering what kind of priest debates picking fights with strangers, Yukiko struck up a conversation with Utnreyoz Iaerc. Utnreyoz Iaerc expressed how thoroughly bored he was with the party, and how he was looking for some action. After getting a strange look from Yukiko, he clarified that the type of action he was looking for was a duel. Yukiko turned to find UJ, to see if he was up for the challenge, but he was to starstruck to answer. Exasperated at he friends reaction, Yukiko accepted Utnreyoz Iaerc invitation, for the duel, that is, and they set a time and place for it, the duel, to take place.
***As suggested above, your friend seems to be spoiling for a fight, but he doesn't stand up and offer to duel.
At the rendezous, for the duel and only the duel, Utnreyoz Iaerc was nowhere to be found. However, Yukiko was hailed by Cetipa Olpyan as she approached. Appearently Cetipa Olpyan has been hoping to defeat both Yukiko and Utnreyoz Iaerc for some reason, but instead, had attacked Utnreyoz Iaerc as he arrived. Cetipa still seemed to be in the mode to fight, but Yukiko had lost her appetite for combat and asked to be allowed to bring Utnreyoz Iaerc to the hospital. Her tone convinced Cepita that she wouldn't be make of a "compeditor" and let her go. Back at the hospital, Utnreyoz Iaerc revealed that Cepita was after the Zeron Legging, a piece of symbiotic armor created during the age of superpowers, that he had been looking for as well. As she was leaving the hospital, Yukiko was acosted be a young man in a school uniform. He said that his name was Caged and that had been one of Galena's orphans and that he would like to help Yukiko on her adventure. Not wanting to turn down the oppurtunity to add more firepower to the team, Yukiko welcomed him aboard. At this point, Yukiko felt that her job here was done and that she should go see her friend Darbix on Emerald spinner.
***Typo: compeditor => competitor
***This (and most episodes in this playthough) end with the dreaded "You think your objective is in another spinner" meassage. In this case, Utnreyoz Iaerc should have asked if I was interested in finding the Zeron Legging, since he was retiring, and a positive answer should have had him spend me to his contact on Emerald spinner who might know more.
+++This mission should really be split by time. Instead of just asking you to meet him outside, the famous mecha pilot should ask you to meet him at a specific time. If you are early you face the enemy yourself; if on time, you and the pilot face the enemy together; if you are a little late, this standard scene happens; if you are really late, all you find is debris and the pilot's dead body.
