The Book of Klarn, Part 2

The smell of incense in the tiny stone chamber was overpowering. Klarn sat rigidly on the floor, his face locked in its coolest expression. Across from him the head monk of the temple sat motionless. He had been this way since Klarn was led to the room an hour earlier. At first, Klarn thought that the monk was simply lost in meditation and waited patiently for him to return to his senses. Later on, Klarn began to wonder if he was being tested by the monk. A similar thing happened to Akira Yojimbo in the fifth episode of “Moonlight Smile”. After another forty minutes Klarn abandoned that idea and instead concluded that the monk was probably just asleep.

He cleared his throat, loudly. Nothing happened. He did it again, louder and more conspicuously. The monk’s stern expression broke, and a wry smile crossed his face. “I hear you like comic books”, he said.

The Book of Klarn, Part 1

To a casual observer, it looked like absolutely nothing out of the ordinary: a sixteen meter tall anthropomorphic war machine rocketing through the desert at 180kph. A more nuanced eye, though, would not be fooled. This was clearly a scene taken directly from an animated vidcom.
